  Hi,

It will be great if the java bindings for tokyocabinet (and
the new upstream version - 1.4.43) is packaged for debian.

The java bindings are part of a different upstream package (tarball),
plus I have absolutely no clue nor interests for java, hence someone
else should do it (probably among the Debian Java team ?).

I'll try to work on the new upstream soon though.

Hello Pierre,

I really needed the new upstream version packaged, so I did the work of
updating the package for the new version. Also, since bug #596502 was so simple,
I fixed it. I set this bug as closed in the changelog (Closes: #578745), as I
think the main thing here is the new upstream version. The java bindings issue
will probably stay as a wishlist for a little longer.

You can pull the work I did into your git repository:

http://rafael.kontesti.me/debian/tokyo/tokyo.git

Let me know if you can't pull it for whatever reason.

I have also uploaded all result files to:

http://rafael.kontesti.me/debian/tokyo

If that's useful for anyone...

Bug#637284: Can't install wheezy on a 2011 iMac

I wrote:

I should probably retry the whole install with the 2.6.x

 report.

I was able to try this, but I got EXACTLY the same problem when I tried
to boot into the new system.

I'm going to be away and out of contact for a week -- hopefully while
I'm away somebody can shed some light on this?

Bug#637079: Bug #637079 ITP: python-visvis -- Python/OpenGL based 1D to 4D object oriented plotting software

2011-08-14 Thread Aron Xu
Hi,

I've done a quick check about your package on mentors.debian.net,
something seems to be wrong:

 * $ lintian -E -I --show-overrides python-visvis_1.5-1_i386.changes
  W: python-visvis: empty-binary-package
This means the package installs wrongly and does not contains the
needed content.
Please try to extract the .deb generated to see what happens.

 * I see the package is still using python-support, can you use
dh_python2 instead?

Yes, and upstream has explicitly stated that they are not interested in
supporting non UTF8 locales. If you provided a patch upstream, maybe
upstream would consider including it, but until then, I don't think our
time is well spent on working on this issue.

Sorry.

Well no, nss_3.12.11-1 failed again, recompiling it with no

the same time let it succeed though. (On the other hand,
by the time the fips code was reached, the box was probably
 otherwise doing nothing, either…)

Again, you'll have to figure out what's wrong by yourself. It builds
fine on all others architectures.

Fair enough. I've attached a patch against 1.3.12-9 below. I haven't
actually /formatted/ the documentation, so please have a quick look if
you include it. But it was just a matter of copying text verbatim from
the man page and applying a little bit of Texinfo markup.

I went through the gzip -h output, the man page and the two
command-line option listings in the info page. The only other thing
which was out of sync was the useless --ascii option, so it's in quite
good shape.

Bug#594800: 0ad beta 6 packages

2011-08-14 Thread Vincent Cheng
I'll upload it to mentors.d.n later tonight or tomorrow if anyone
wants to take a second look at it.

Refreshed my 0ad package and uploaded it to mentors.d.n:

$ dget http://mentors.debian.net/debian/pool/main/0/0ad/0ad_0+r09786-1.dsc

I was about to upload my 0ad-data package as well, but for some reason
dput segfaulted halfway through, so for the moment I'll simply ask you
to download the data tarball directly from upstream:
http://releases.wildfiregames.com/0ad-r09786-alpha-unix-data.tar.xz

My actual packaging for 0ad-data (the stuff under debian/) can be fetched with:
$ svn co svn://svn.debian.org/svn/pkg-games/packages/trunk/0ad-data/

I'll try again and re-upload 0ad-data to mentors tomorrow; sorry for
the inconvenience!

0ad and 0ad-data are both pbuilder clean, and the game runs fine, but
they aren't lintian clean (I'll work on fixing this later), and as
previously mentionned, there are issues with embedded libraries and
whatnot, so it probably can't be uploaded to the Debian archive in its
current state.

Hi Fabrice,

I'm preparing a new upload for libvalhalla and would like to get this

libav/ffmpeg 0.7; if you could provide a patch that works with both
versions, I'd be happy to include it in the package and have it
committed upstream.

Bug#635078: kstars-data-extra-tycho2: General update after the debconf review process

2011-08-14 Thread Christian PERRIER
Dear Debian maintainer,

On Tuesday, July 19, 2011, I sent you a notification about the beginning of a
review
action on debconf templates for kstars-data-extra-tycho2.

Then, I sent you a bug report with rewritten templates and announcing
the beginning of the second phase of this action: call for translation
updates.

Translators have been working hard and here is now the result of their efforts.

Please consider using it EVEN if you committed files to your
development tree as long as they were reported.

The attached tarball contains:

- debian/changelog with the list of changes
- debian/control with rewrites of packages' descriptions
- debian/templates with all the rewritten templates file(s)
- debian/po/*.po with all PO files (existing ones and new ones)

As said, please use *at least* the PO files as provided here,
preferrably over those sent by translators in their bug reports. All
of them have been checked and reformatted. In some cases, formatting
errors have been corrected.

The patch.rfr file contains a patch for the templates and control
file(s) alone.

Please note that this patch applies to the templates and control
file(s) of your package as of Tuesday, July 19, 2011. If your package was
updated
in the meantime, I may have updated my reference copybut I also
may have missed that. This is indeed why I suggested you do not
modified such files while the review process was running,
remember..:-)

It is now safe to upload a new package version with these changes.

Please notify me of your intents with regards to this.

There is of course no hurry to update your package but feel free to
contact me in case you would need sponsoring or any other action to
fix this.

Bug#637757: libaudio-ecasound-perl: FTBFS on mips

2011-08-14 Thread Salvatore Bonaccorso
Source: libaudio-ecasound-perl
Version: 1.01-2
Severity: serious
Justification: FTBFS, previously build on mips

Hi

It seems that libaudio-ecasound-perl does not build on autobuilder
since 1.01-2, but did previously. See [1]. This prevents migration of
the unstable package to testing.

Bug#608340: daemon fails to create shell session with --daemon

 Hello,

I can provide additional information for this bug. I experience it if I
 configure
ajaxterm to start in daemon mode with uid root so that ajaxterm uses
 /bin/login.

Thanks for your detailed explanations. Unfortunately, I still fail to
reproduce the problem, testing on several machines.

I have contacted the author of the patch which adds UTF-8 support to
Ajaxterm.

You mention in your email that Ajaxterm crashes (or so) when you raise 'ls
-l'. Do you have any files/directories with specific encodings in your ~/ ?
what locale do you use on your server?

Because of the unicode error message, I should perhaps add my browser version
Firefox 5.0 on Windows 7. I accessed the ajaxterm remotely via squid
 2.7.STABLE9-4.

I use Iceweasel 5.0 on Debian, but I do not think it is related. However, if
you have the possibility to test with another browser/platform...

By the way, I can confirm the problem that ajaxterm does not react on
 Ctrl+C when in non-daemon mode:

 ^CTraceback (most recent call last):
File /usr/share/ajaxterm/ajaxterm.py, line 652, in main
 g_server.serve_forever()
   File /usr/lib/python2.6/SocketServer.py, line 224, in serve_forever
 r, w, e = select.select([self], [], [], poll_interval)
 KeyboardInterrupt

I fail to understand what is the problem there?

Cheers,
Julien

The reporter is right that -dev packages should be arch:any, not
arch:all.

Even if the current libmp4v2-dev package doesn't ship any architecture
dependent files, the resulting churn from buildd skew (i.e., the
situation when the buildds for some architectures are slow, this results
in the library being uninstallable when the -dev package is superseeded
with a new upload) is really not worth saving a few kbytes on the
archive mirrors.

I've done that change in git already.

Cheers,
Reinhard

Bug#637620: [Pkg-alsa-devel] Bug#637620: alsa-base: No sound with Realtek ALC889A card

2011-08-14 Thread Elimar Riesebieter
* Peter . [110813 19:50 +]:

 Elimar,

I spent over 10 hours delving through forums and trying various
combinations of settings and solutions to fix a problem with sound
configuration which works out of the box on Windows because I make
a huge effort to prevent bugging linux developers with erroneous
issues - perhaps you can find any more information needed for the
issue in the file which contains the entire system configuration
without my assistance or just mark the bug as invalid because
alsa-dev maintainers are too lazy to review the details of a
 reported issue.

Experienced Maintainers keep cool with anxious bug reporters. In
most cases the bug resides between left and right ear ;-)

I would try to create a /etc/modprobe.d/alsa_local.conf as follows:

alias snd-card-0 snd-hda-intel
options snd-hda-intel enable_msi=0 index=0
alias snd-card-1 snd-hda-intel
options snd-hda-intel model=intel-alc889a index=1

you can rememove model=intel-alc889a for testing proposes.

HDMI - first soundcard
snd-hda - second.

You can find some more info's in
/usr/share/doc/alsa-base/README.Debian, but if you're lazy keep on
wining

Bug#481237: View current patch

2011-08-14 Thread Gergely Nagy
tags 481237 + pending
thanks

I opted to make this possible a bit differently: instead of a separate
dpatch-edit-patch-diff or similar command (althouth debian-diff could've
worked with some PATH munglig), dpatch-edit-patch now exports two
environment variables to the subshell:

DPEP_SHELL_REFDIR and DPEP_SHELL_WORKDIR. The former is the full path to
the reference directory, the latter is the full path to the working
directory.

One can then use diff -Nur $DPEP_SHELL_REFDIR $DPEP_SHELL_WORKDIR to see
the current changes without exiting the subshell.

This will be documented on the dpatch-edit-patch manual page aswell, and
will be part of the next dpatch upload.

Bug#637637: yoshimi: Yoshimi seg faults when started with -j -A option

2011-08-14 Thread david
Thanks, I tried what Alessio had mentioned below and encountered these
results:

Their installed yoshimi = 0.060.10avlinux-2

Their yosihimi-data package = 0.058.1-1

No Yoshimi-dbg version

Their installed Jackd1 = 1:0.120.2avlinux-1

jackd2 wasn't installed, version they list in repository = 1.9.6~dfsg.1-2

The packages with avlinux in their names are all described as custom
built for AVLinux.

I replaced their jackd1 with their jackd2 and was able to run JACK at
16msec latency without crash, but after that simnply starting Yoshimi
with or without without any options gave me a segfault.

It sounds to me like I should just avoid AVLinux. If they feel the need
to do so many custom packages, and at least 2 of their custom packaged
versions don't work, I don't think I can trust their quality control
enough to risk using their distro for production work.

i...@bandshed.net wrote:

Hi,

If I'm not mistaken this bug and another JACK related bug here by the same
reporter are 'avlinux' packages, therefore not packaged by pkg-multimedia.
The yoshimi issue has been reported on the AV Linux forums and seems to
disappear simply by increasing the JACK 'Timeout' to 1000 or more. Yoshimi
is custom packaged in AV Linux and has no dbg package currently.

I append an 'avlinux' package name suffix to all my custom packages, and
would suggest to the reporter to feel welcome to seek assistance on the AV
Linux user forums when there are issues with them since they are not
endorsed or the responsibility of the Debian pkg-multimedia team.

I thought I'd better speak up on this to prevent any misunderstanding. As
always my props and encouragement to the pkg-multimedia team.

I confirm those -j -A options prevent yoshimi to start fine.
I haven't noticed this before because I use ladish to manage my
audioMIDI connections, and if launched without options it appears in
gladish.
I need some time to investigate further.

Could you please install yoshimi-dbg and provide a backtrace?

Bug#400092: dpatch: [dpatch.lib.sh] DPATCH_LIB_NO_DEFAULT is not documented in dpatch(1)

2011-08-14 Thread Gergely Nagy
tags 400092 + wontfix
thanks

After thinking about this overnight, I wonder: what's the use? Yes, the
documentation could be better, but would anyone read it? I doubt so, as
new packages use 3.0 source formats, and don't touch dpatch. Old ones
probably don't care about these details anymore.

I do not think writing a manual page for dpatch.lib.sh would worth the
effort, therefore I am marking this bug as wontfix.

Documentation patches can convince me otherwise, however.

Bug#637766: pulseaudio: Gdm3 greeter and various applications hang due to custom configuration of Alsa and Pulse

2011-08-14 Thread Panayiotis Karabassis
Package: pulseaudio
Version: 0.9.21-3+squeeze1
Severity: normal

Following instructions widely available on the Internet, I set-up pulse audio
to be the default ALSA device by creating the following /etc/asound.conf file:

pcm.pulse {
type pulse
}

ctl.pulse {
type pulse
}

pcm.!default {
type pulse
}

ctl.!default {
type pulse
}

On subsequent reboots gdm3 hanged (in my opinion, at the point it was about to
play the welcome beep).

After bypassing the problem -by deleting the gdm3 home dir- I found that sound
related applications, such as rhythmbox and gnome-volume-control, also hanged
when asked to interact with the soundcard.

The problems ceased, as soon as I deleted the above mentioned file.

Bug#637767: [da...@davemloft.net: [PATCH] Serious glibc sparc rlimits bug]

2011-08-14 Thread Jurij Smakov
Package: libc6-dev
Version: 2.13-16
Severity: important

- Forwarded message from David Miller da...@davemloft.net -

Date: Sun, 14 Aug 2011 00:29:18 -0700 (PDT)
From: David Miller da...@davemloft.net
To: ju...@wooyd.org
CC: debian-sp...@lists.debian.org
Subject: [PATCH] Serious glibc sparc rlimits bug
X-Mailer: Mew version 6.3 on Emacs 23.2 / Mule 6.0 (HANACHIRUSATO)

Unfortunately, the sparc32 definition of the 64-bit RLIM_INFINITY
value is wrong, and it's been wrong for a while.

This causes serious problems, the worst of which is that no 64-bit
pthread program executing as a child of 'make' can succeed.

GLIBC's pthread_create() uses the current RLIMIT_STACK value as a hint
for sizing thread stacks. It handles RLIM_INFINITY specially instead
of trying to allocate an enormous stack.

But if RLIM_INFINITY is wrong... right, nothing works.

How this happens is that libpam corrupts the kernel default rlimits
when it creates a login session, because even if you have no explicit
settings in /etc/security/limits.conf it still reads every rlimit
then sets it right back to the same value. It even has some pre-cooked
defaults, and the default for RLIMIT_STACK is cur=8MB max=RLIM_INFINITY

So if RLIM_INFINITY is wrong (for 32-bit binaries it's too small), the
values will all get truncated down to this incorrect RLIM_INFINITY
value.

Next, make sets the current RLIMIT_STACK 'cur' value to the maximum,
so now the current RLIMIT_STACK has this wrong RLIM_INFINITY value
too.

Then 64-bit glibc doesn't recognize this value as RLIM_INFINITY during
pthread_create() and it tries to allocate a thread stack of size
0x8000 bytes. This, of course, fails.

A bunch of binaries are going to need to be rebuilt because of this issue
once the glibc build goes through, I would prioritize libpam0g, make,
and emacs23.

I'll be committing this soon to glibc GIT. I tested this by doing a
glibc deb rebuild with this patch applied, installing, then rebuilding
libpam0g and make.

Bug#634598: still failing in testsuite on some architectures

2011-08-14 Thread Christoph Egger

kthxbye

Hi!

libcrypt-gcrypt-perl still FTBFS due to testsuite errors on hurd-i386
kfreebsd-amd64 mips(el) powerpc and s390. It's also still claiming (no
library found for -lgcrypt): so reopening this bug. I've checked and
at least for the kfreebsd builds perl 5.12.4-2 was used.

Bug#637768: grub-common: grub-probe doesn't follow symlinks

2011-08-14 Thread Ove Kaaven
Package: grub-common
Version: 1.99-11
Severity: important

I have a multibooted system with two Linux root partitions (one for i386
and one for amd64) and have been sharing /boot between them through
symlinking. That is, on the 64-bit partition, I mount the 32-bit
partition on /deb32 and symlink to it:

merlin:~# ls -l /boot
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 11 6 jan. 2009 /boot - /deb32/boot

So, I do not have a separate /boot partition. Rather, in this case,
/boot is a subdirectory of another partition than the current root
partition. It appears that grub-probe -t device /boot doesn't notice
that /boot is a symlink into another partition, so it just returns
the current root partition, which doesn't work. This means that
installing kernels on my 64-bit partition results in an unbootable
system... and there's not much docs on how to override it when
grub-probe gets it wrong.

(By studying the shell scripts, I think I've figured out a way to
override it, but I'm not supposed to have to, so...)

Below is an example system-connection file I used in the recent weeks.
It seems to be good enough for practically anyhwere, even though it
only configures wifi (unencrypted, WPA2-psk and WEP).

As implied from the text, including the reference (settings-spec.html)
in the package would also be nice.

# The following is a simple NetworkManager system connection file

# The NetworkManager daemon watched that directory (with inotify), so no

Hello Bruno,

thanks for the information. Also please tell me if you use pulseaudio or ALSA
now as your main sound system in KDE (or other DE you are currently using).

Anyway you can set RUN=no in /etc/default/speech-dispatcher to prevent
speech-dispatcher from starting automatically on system boot. I will make this
change automatically in next version speech-dispatcher package when I am
confident it is the right way to fix.

Maybe, here, we could use the opportunity to explain what PSK is:

Choose WEP/Open if the network is open or secured with WEP.
Choose WPA if the network is a WPA PSK (Pre-Shared Key) protected network.
Choose WPA/WPA2 if the network is protected with WPA or WPA2 using a

Yes, that would be good.
A new patch to reflect this.

That sounds like a python bug. You might want to enable core dumps on
your system so that you can file bugs about random crashes.

 http://releases.wildfiregames.com/0ad-r09786-alpha-unix-data.tar.xz

The upstream tarball contains a pre-built copy of the DejaVu font,
please ask them to remove that. Likewise for the other font, that
should be packaged separately from 0ad using the upstream project. It
is perfectly acceptable for upstream to include pre-built fonts in
their binary installers/packages for platforms with broken/missing
repository/dependency systems but the source packages and VCS should
not include non-source forms and should not contain embedded copies of
other projects.

http://www.gust.org.pl/projects/e-foundry/tex-gyre/pagella

There doesn't appear be any suspicious metadata in the images.

A couple of the images are pre-rendered text. I wonder which font they
used and if it. IMO text should only be rendered at runtime since that
enables i18n and ensure that any fonts used on Debian systems are
DFSG-free.

IMO the small versions of the icons should be removed and the scaling
should happen either at runtime or buildtime. I think it would be nice
to convert the images to vector so that the UI can scale to any
resolution. The buttons dir contains only small versions, so I wonder
if there is some source code missing there.

There is a ZIP file in there too. It seems a bit rediculous to put a
compressed file inside the already compressed tarball and even more
rediculous to put such a file in a VCS (didn't look if it was there
too).

If I unpack the zip file I get a shitload of other stuff. I don't have
time to review the whole thing right now, but based on find | xargs
file there are some things that are not source code or not in
standard, modifiable formats, which is what the source package should
consist of.

The font stuff inside it weird. IMO this should be replaced by vector
fonts rendered at runtime. There are other images with pre-rendered
text that possibly was rendered using non-free fonts.

Also the ./public/art/LICENSE.txt file indicates that all the
materials from CGTextures are missing their source form.

I find it completely bizarre that they are using an Excel spreadsheet
to store techtree info. Does the game really require a Excel file
reading code??

Those xmb files look like binary versions of the corresponding xml
files. These should be generated at build time not stored in the
source tarball or VCS.

There are some weird binary formats. One of them contained a string:
God Knows, perhaps that should be replaced with God Knows WTF these
files are and how to modify them ;)

I wonder about the DDS files. They can be opened in GIMP with gimp-dds
but their names seem to indicate that there are TGA files that are the
source form of them. IMO the DDS files should be created at
runtime/build time from their source TGA files, or the game should
simply switch to using the TGA files.

There are a bunch of pre-encoded Ogg files. I don't know what is the
source but Ogg definitely is not it. There should be some sort of
losslessly encoded audio or the project files for whatever DFSG-free
program generated these files.

There are two RAR files. RAR is a proprietary format that is not yet
uncompressible only using software in Debian main. There is a free
software decompressor implementation but it is not yet in Debian
(#619602) and I haven't been able to compile it yet. Please ask
upstream to not store these in the source package and not in the VCS
either.

This package's description is just.imppossible to understand.
There's no clue about what is a class (like Food::Fish::Fishstick)

description is of the same vein...making it impossible to understand
what this package is about or why users should have it installed.

This is probably the very first time I translated a description

Bug#637774: libplucene-perl: FTBFS with perl 5.14: needs alternate dependency on perl 5.14 to satisfy libtime-piece-perl, or drop dependency

2011-08-14 Thread Dominic Hargreaves
Source: libplucene-perl
Version: 1.25-2
Severity: important
User: debian-p...@lists.debian.org
Usertags: perl-5.14-transition

This package cannot be built with perl 5.14, since perl 5.14 provides
and breaks libtime-piece-perl, and this package has a versioned
Build-Dep on libtime-piece-perl (= 1.08).

The solution is to add an alternative dependency on perl 5.14:

libtime-piece-perl (= 1.08) | perl (= 5.14)

This package also has a run-time dependency on libtime-piece-perl
so the same change should be made there too.

Alternatively, this dependency could be dropped altogether, since
it is satisfied by perl even in oldstable.

Bug#637775: dput: add date/time in .upload entries

2011-08-14 Thread Pino Toscano
Package: dput
Version: 0.9.6.2
Severity: wishlist

Hi,

it would be nice if each line in .upload files would have a prefix with
the date/time that upload was completed, for example:
  [2011/08/14 10:23:11] Successfully uploaded foo.deb to ... for
this way you can easily spot how much time it took for each operation to
complete (roughly), and have a record of the date/time you did the upload.
A configuration for it coul allow to not have to pass a parameter for it
at each upload.

Thanks,

Thanks for pointing this out. I also came across this so it was fixed in

While we are at it, however, I would go even futher and simplifies the

is no point in duplicating code for nothing:

I personally don't like this solution much because it makes the output
uglier but if the stop/start gets more complex I'll consider it.

Bug#608340: daemon fails to create shell session with --daemon

2011-08-14 Thread Christoph Kling
Hi Julien

You mention in your email that Ajaxterm crashes (or so) when you raise 'ls
 -l'.
Do you have any files/directories with specific encodings in your ~/ ?
what locale do you use on your server?

The locale of the user I log in with is set to en_US. There was one file with a
German
umlaut. After I renamed the file, ajaxterm doesn't crash when calling ls -l.

How do I find out the exact encoding of a file name?

By the way, I can confirm the problem that ajaxterm does not react on
  Ctrl+C when in non-daemon mode:

  ^CTraceback (most recent call last):
File /usr/share/ajaxterm/ajaxterm.py, line 652, in main
  g_server.serve_forever()
File /usr/lib/python2.6/SocketServer.py, line 224, in serve_forever
  r, w, e = select.select([self], [], [], poll_interval)
  KeyboardInterrupt

I fail to understand what is the problem there?

I can't terminate the daemon. Shouldn't that be possible with ctrl+c?

Hi!

Your package failed to build on kfreebsd as the uuid code is

BSDLibC specific. Attached patch fixes this problem and allows zeromq to
build on kfreebsd

Now everything works as expected.

(*) let's say: reeinstalled with purge because version 007-2 was updated

libcpufreq0 by hand to 007-2 (??) because 007-1 was installed after
upgrade of cpufrequtils (missing dependency?)

Although it is not listed as supported OS, I go with my preference and run
Debian instead of recommended Gentoo or Ubuntu.
Install worked fine with Lenny but on Squeeze, the graphic card is not setup up

The context for this is that multistrap is listing a package which is

warning gets repeated if other such errors are found.

(mangled to avoid unexpected line breaks):

Yes, that is a bit confused in the output code too. I don't think the
plurals are actually necessary. I'll sort that out and preserve the
existing translation as a singular. (e.g. by unwinding the array and
listing each in turn). Hooks themselves may disappear in future
revisions of multistrap. I can edit the PO file(s) to match once I've
sorted it out.

Bug#625256: Patch

Attached patch solved problem for me:
cd /usr/lib/rhythmbox/plugins/context
patch -p0 LyricsTab.patch

Александър, could you confirm this?
So, as you can see patch seems ugly. I really don't know why one entry != same
entry, but their string representations are equivalent.
String representation is smth like RhythmDBEntry at 0x3963a30, looks like
memory address and is unique for each entry. So, this works.
But why same plugin works in squeeze? May be this is some python problem?

Bug#608340: daemon fails to create shell session with --daemon

2011-08-14 Thread Julien Valroff
Hi Christoph,

Le dimanche 14 août 2011 à 12:26:24 (+0200 CEST), Christoph Kling a écrit :
 Hi Julien

You mention in your email that Ajaxterm crashes (or so) when you raise 'ls
  -l'.
Do you have any files/directories with specific encodings in your ~/ ?
what locale do you use on your server?

The locale of the user I log in with is set to en_US.

You mean en_US.utf8?

Check with `locale' or `echo $LANG'.

There was one file with a German umlaut. After I renamed the file,
ajaxterm doesn't crash when calling ls -l.

Great! This doesn't allow me to reproduce the issue, I only have UTF-8
locales on my various machines.

How do I find out the exact encoding of a file name?

You can try running convm on this file:
  % convmv -t utf8 Überprüfung.txt
Your Perl version has fleas #37757 #49830
Starting a dry run without changes...
  Skipping, already UTF-8: ./Überprüfung.txt
No changes to your files done. Use --notest to finally rename the files.

See, in that case, it detects the filename is already encoded as UTF-8

I've found a python alternative at [0].
In my example, it gives:
   import os
   import chardet
   chardet.detect(os.popen(ls *ng.txt).read())
  {'confidence': 0.75245, 'encoding': 'utf-8'}

By the way, I can confirm the problem that ajaxterm does not react on
   Ctrl+C when in non-daemon mode:

   ^CTraceback (most recent call last):
File /usr/share/ajaxterm/ajaxterm.py, line 652, in main
   g_server.serve_forever()
 File /usr/lib/python2.6/SocketServer.py, line 224, in serve_forever
   r, w, e = select.select([self], [], [], poll_interval)
   KeyboardInterrupt

I fail to understand what is the problem there?

I can't terminate the daemon. Shouldn't that be possible with ctrl+c?

It does in my case, which is why I didn't understand the issue. This is
however unrelated to the major problem, will check this afterwards.

Cheers,
Julien

Bug#636283: speech-dispatcher: Pico doesn't work anymore

2011-08-14 Thread Boris Dušek
Hello Jean,

thanks for the bug report. I reproduced the problem with both pico-generic and
espeak-generic. So it looks like rather a bug in the generic module itself not
specific to pico. Since it's reproducible on my side, I will try to see and
debug what the problem is. This could take some time (rather weeks than days),
so please be patient.

For the record, the settings I reproduced it with:

* audio output is alsa
* pico-generic and espeak-generic are uncommented in
/etc/speech-dispatcher/speechd.conf
* optional: default speech module is pico-generic or espeak-generic, for
convenience to not specify it with each spd-say run
* speech-dispatcher starts in system-wide mode (RUN=yes in
/etc/default/speech-dispatcher)
* I use spd-say like this:
SPEECHD_SOCKET=/var/run/speech-dispatcher/speechd.sock spd-say -o pico-generic
hello; the -o pico-generic can be changed espeak-generic, and/or omitted if
default speech module is set appropriately in configuration

I am not saying it is not reproducible with other settings, just that these are
the settings I used.

I tried debugging with gdb, it seems the generic module exits gracefully on its
own will, it does not crash.

Also I noticed your output module is named espeak-pico-generic, but the
official Debian package has this as just pico-generic. You should be using the
official pico-generic module for reporting bugs in the future, or updating this
bug report - even though I reproduced the problem fine with the original
pico-generic, it's better we use consistent modules.

W.r.t. upgrade to git, the right thing now is to try debugging the generic
module to see where the problem is and then fix it, instead of just upgrading
to git. Below are my thoughts about packaging current upstream git in Debian:

First if there will be upstream's git packaged for Debian, I would definitely
put it into experimental, not unstable, especially for the reason that I have
no experience about how stable and usable the current git is, and also have no
way to tell whether there will be any developments in the git version, which
would be good for providing subsequent updated versions of the package in the
future. I have no information about upcoming upstream release, the better place
to ask would be the speech-dispatcher mailing list.

Note that if this was about packaging an upstream beta into experimental or
even unstable, it would be much more OK for me to package it.

Also providing libao is not a valid reason, since libao output is already
enabled in unstable (0.7.1-4) and testing (0.7.1-6).

If you feel adventurous and really want to try out speech-dispatcher from git,
there is current speech-dispatcher git packaged (including native pico module)
for Ubuntu using automated daily build system - it's in the ppa:dusek/spd-daily
PPA. So you might try installing that directly with dpkg or somehow with apt (I
haven't tried), hopefully the Ubuntu package will be usable in Debian. You also
need to install libdotconf1.0 from that repository first. Please let me (and/or
the debian-accessibility list) know about your results if you try it.

But in general, the preferred approach by me to handling bugs is to fix problem
in current release than upgrading to git.

If you want to discuss upgrade to git further, please open a new bug, it really
would confuse communication in this bug which is really about the specific
problem of generic module not working, and there might be other reasons, apart
from native pico module, that you or others might mention why upgrading to git
is a good thing. You can always mention that other bug number in this bug.

2.8.2011 v 0:48, Jean-Philippe MENGUAL:

 Package: speech-dispatcher
 Version: 0.7.1-6
 Severity: normal

 Hi,

I tried upgrading spd package, but it's really too complex. However, as you
 can see on this thread:
 http://lists.debian.org/debian-accessibility/2011/07/msg00126.html

it seems there're 2 reasons to try packaging the current git release. 1st,
Pico now doesn't work since the last update (see the thread). Then, it seems
that we could ship libao as suggested in another thread of the list. Finally,
it'd allow to test the last modules for pico and ibmtts viavoice.

The most important bug is that pico absolutely doesn't work now. It seems
the espeak-pico-generic doesn't suit, it should be replaced by the current
 module in the dev release.

So could you upgrade the package please? Optionally in experimental repo? To
upgrade to the current git release? Otherwise, do you know if a release will
 come soon?

 Thanks for your answer.

I would really like to test this further but I dunno from where to start.

What I've find out is that the wireless card starts working as soon as
I put the netbook next to the AP, then NetworkManager starts its

connection keeps stable and available regardless I possition the
netbook.

I will write to the suggested mailing lists (thanks for that!) and

Bug#637761: Technical Aspects

2011-08-14 Thread Misha Strong
Description : Background document up- and down-loader.

This daemon synchronizes your files to an FTP-server, or folder thereon.
To combat the problem of clogging your internet line with data, only
TEXT and ZIP files are included. Therefor, it is safe to specify your
$HOME directory as a local source.

You may not know, but .ODT and -- heaven forbid -- .DOCX files are also
PK-compressed. In summary, this tool copies: program source code, and
office documents/databases. Of course, only files which have changed are
moved.

This is done by opening a local file descriptor, then connecting using a
builtin library, and saving or loading data as neccessary. Connections
can be quite easily aborted (and safely) due to our atomic meta-data
structure. This makes it great for roaming laptops.

One of the main features of this program, is that it does not rely on
date or time. This is an advantage for poorly maintained servers (I have
seen a few) and especially ones in different countries. We do this
instead heuristically: if a file is bigger, it is newer, etc. Although,
at the end of the day, a local file will not be replaced with a remote
one, if it hasn't yet been uploaded (safety check.)

As such, the biggest limitation of our software, is that is single-user.
However, that does not mean single-computer! This is the advantage CIFS
has over us.

Hi there,

Seems the page in the Homepage field (http://sks.merseine.nu/) has
disappeared.

I've been able to found it up at http://62.204.197.159/sks/ though.

Bug#637781: fails to exit but puts heavy load on CPU

2011-08-14 Thread martin f krafft
Package: libreoffice
Version: 1:3.4.1-1
Severity: normal

Recently, I have noticed that LibreOffice at times failed to shut
down. All windows would be closed, but the process was still
running. Worse yet: the process would be using up as much CPU time
as it could.

I have not yet been able to find out more about this. It has
happened when LibreOffice was opened before the laptop put to sleep,
and then resumed. I have also seen it happen without there having
been a sleep-resume cycle.

I cannot reproduce this problem at will, it seems that maybe it
takes a while for LibreOffice to run before it enters this
problematic stage.

Hence for now I am just recording this bug report, and I will
provide more information as I obtain it.

mentions a similar problem, and which says that the problem has been
fixed as of version 0.7.5 by editing
/home/username/.zekr/config.properties to change the line

to
update.enable = false

However, on version 1.0.0+repack-5 the same or similar problem occurs,
even though the said line in the config.properties file is already
changed as above by default.

Bug#117436: testing on squeeze

2011-08-14 Thread Gergely Nagy
I just tried to reproduce this on my squeeze system, with a freshly
built gramofile, and in all terminal emulators I tried (xterm,
gnome-terminal konsole), it behaved correctly:

I started gramofile, it's menu appeared, I pressed Q, it exited, and
cleared the screen, giving me a clean prompt back.

However, I could reproduce the problem on the console, where it left a
few things on the screen afterwards.

Zekr relies SWT library. Unfortunately, SWT does not support XULRunner
6.0. The solution is to use the WebKit backend instead.

1) Make sure that /home/username/.zekr/config.properties does *NOT* have
this setting:
options.browser.useMozilla=true

2) Make sure that libswt-webkit-gtk-3-jni is installed.

Bug#117436: testing on squeeze

2011-08-14 Thread Gergely Nagy
tags 117436 + patch
thanks

Actually, I could reproduce this on the console, to some extent: the
gramofile screen remained there, but above my prompt.

Nevertheless, the attached patch (to be applied on top of the one in
#636885) modifies gramofile to clear the screen anyway. Tested the
result on the text console, in various terminal emulators, and it
behaved as it should have: cleared the screen when exiting.

Comments/Problems:

I started the network installer through GRUB in the Amazon Elastic Comptuter
Cloud, and connected to it through a network console launched via preseeding.

I gave a couple of details on my website:
http://charles.plessy.org/Debian/debiâneries/nuage/

While the detection of hard drives apparently went well (see attached
partman log), the partition step fails with the following error.

  ┌┤ [!!] Partition disks ├─┐
  │ │
│ No root file system │

  │ │
  └─┘

Despite being in expert mode with ‘low’ Debconf priority, the above is
the only thing I get at the Partition disks step. I need to press Escape
to return to the main menu, as otherwise it loops.

I tried to format the virtual drive on its first partition or without
partitionning, but it did not make a difference.

Do you have any idea ?

By the way, this is the first time I made such an advanced usage of the
installer
and I must say that I am very impressed.

Have a nice day,

adding a -e share/pulseaudio in the debian/rules section doing the
kfreebsd filtering does fix the build problem and might be the correct
solution.

Nit: I believe the right spelling is Pre-Shared Key rather than
Pre-Shared-Key (e.g. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pre-shared_key), so
let's spell it that way from the start to avoid having to unfuzzy

Bug#637786: mipsel daily images fail to build

2011-08-14 Thread Matt Kraai
Package: debian-installer

Hi,

The daily mipsel debian-installer images at

 http://d-i.debian.org/daily-images/mipsel/daily/

fail to build. For example,

http://d-i.debian.org/daily-images/mipsel/daily/build_loongson-2f_netboot-2.6.log

contains

Thanks for sending, applied it so it'll be in the next

the release of course.)

 Perfect, thanks!

I think it may not be fully complete. When I build with the patch applied,
the package ends up without any python dependency at all (Lintian
complains loudly about this). By the looks of
http://packages.ubuntu.com/oneiric/mailman , it seems the Ubuntu package
suffers from this aswell...

Bug#637785: pulseaudio/experimental/kfreebsd -- actually there's a symbol diff

2011-08-14 Thread Christoph Egger
Hi!

shouldn't have sent that mail so fast. The build of the experimental
package still fails after fixing the install with a symbol diff:

Bug#614364: [Pkg-mailman-hackers] Bug#614364: mailman: show_qfiles does not work (for messages left by Lenny's mailman)

2011-08-14 Thread Thijs Kinkhorst
Hi,

On Mon, February 21, 2011 15:12, Ansgar Burchardt wrote:
While installing the latest security update, mailman complained about
files in /var/lib/mailman/qfiles and suggested to use
 /var/lib/mailman/bin/show_qfiles to examine these files.

However show_qfiles aborts with an error:

 almighty-bob:/var/lib/mailman# ./bin/show_qfiles qfiles/shunt/*.pck

 main()
File ./bin/show_qfiles, line 88, in main
 sys.stdout.write(msg.as_string())
AttributeError: 'str' object has no attribute 'as_string'

The message in question is not very old (17 Dec 2010), but I think it was
 still
created with Lenny's version of mailman (we upgraded the host on that
 day).

I'm not sure that this is a bug. The upgrade process Lenny - Squeeze will
have given the same debconf warning the securty update did, and it does
explain that the old queue files may not be compatible with the new
mailman version. If you chose 'continue regardless' in the upgrade, I
think this may be the expected behaviour.

Cheers,
Thijs
