Bug#641146: openttd: Swapped colors on sparc64
Hi, trying the same on a SPARC (not 64) QEMU shows something somewhat interesting. First of all QEMU only supports 8bpp colours. Secondly, when starting OpenTTD via either Allegro or SDL in 8bpp mode makes the colours of the rest of the interface go totally haywire whereas the colours in-game are correct. Thirdly, using 32bpp the colours are definitely wrong, however changing the order from ARGB to ABGR makes the colours look better but they are still wrong. I have no idea what is going on there though. In any case, x86 uses BGRA (i.e. ARGB reversed), PPC uses ARGB and now it seems SPARC uses ABGR. So it's not an Endian problem, but some strange SPARC implementation detail issue. The only caveat of changing ARGB - ABGR is that the screenshots will then be incorrectly coloured, so somewhere during writing data to the screen the bits need to be reordered. The main question is, however, how can we detect that we need to reorder bits? As when we don't need it, we shouldn't waste CPU on doing basically a no-op, and we would like to know whether there are more peculiar targets. In any case, I have no idea whether this also happens on SPARC64. For example, I don't even know whether you used 32bpp or 8bpp OpenTTD. If it is 8bpp OpenTTD, which I assume to be the case as that's default and you didn't mention switching to the 32bpp blitter, then this issue isn't your issue and I'd rather argue that it is a bug in SDL given we set the right values in the SDL_Color structure. Bug#667703: Please remove synaptic entirely from task-desktop
Quoting Joey Hess (jo...@debian.org): Josselin Mouette wrote: It should be the role of metapackages to handle which packages are installed onto which desktop environment. This actually depends how close a given desktop environment's definition of desktop environment is to common user expectation of a linux desktop. For example, none of the DE's include a print server, but a Debian desktop system should have one. And one might argue to Joss argument that tasksel tasks are metapackages per se so pulling in packages can be seen as belonging to them (otherwise, tasksel tasks become useless). But, of course, when tasksel metapackages are pulling DE metapackages that are pulling some packages, we don't need to replicate this in tasksel..:) The gnome metapackage already pulls synaptic. If we decide one day to replace it, it shouldn’t need two changes, one in gnome and one in tasksel. I agree, there is no reason to pull in synaptic twice for gnome. OK, so long for not pulling synaptic through the gnome task...and not moving it to the desktop task That leaves us with the decision of either adding synaptic to the KDE taskor leave it up to KDE maintainers to do it in one of their metapackages. Ah, yes. You make excellent points. Bug#664930: FTBFS
Hi! Is any of the maintainers of the package looking into fixing this? The cause of the problem is that a function declared in a header file in the heimdal package has changed its signature. The old header said: krb5_error_code hdb_generate_key_set_password ( krb5_context /*context*/, krb5_principal /*principal*/, const char */*password*/, Key **/*keys*/, size_t */*num_keys*/); The new version says: krb5_error_code hdb_generate_key_set_password ( krb5_context /*context*/, krb5_principal /*principal*/, const char */*password*/, krb5_key_salt_tuple */*ks_tuple*/, int /*n_ks_tuple*/, Key **/*keys*/, size_t */*num_keys*/); So there are two new arguments added in the middle at positions 4 and 5. The openldap code calls this function in one location in the file contrib/slapd-modules/smbk5pwd/smbk5pwd.c on line 470-471: ret = hdb_generate_key_set_password(context, ent.principal, qpw-rs_new.bv_val, ent.keys.val, nkeys); Without any knowledge about what this function does and what the smbk5pwd module is, the best I can do is to add a NULL and a 0 for the two new arguments: ret = hdb_generate_key_set_password(context, ent.principal, qpw-rs_new.bv_val, NULL, 0, ent.keys.val, nkeys); Adding a patch implementing this change makes the package compile. But since I have no idea what the module does, I also can not test if works with this patch. A package that builds at all is better than a package that is FTBFS though. Does anyone have a better idea? Bug#667863: transition: octave 3.2 - 3.6
Package: release.debian.org Severity: normal User: release.debian@packages.debian.org Usertags: transition The Debian Octave Group (DOG) is preparing the transition from Octave 3.2 to 3.6. There will be an important impact on the Debian ecosystem because we abandoned the versioned naming scheme. Indeed, the Octave package currently in stable/testing is called octave3.2. From now on, it will be called simply octave (which will conflict/replace octave3.2). After the transition is completed, we will ask for the removal of the octave3.2* packages. This will affect a large number of packages in testing. We are coordinating this transition through our wiki page [1]. There are two types of packages involved. First, the Octave-Forge [2] packages that are maintained by the DOG itself. We have already ported all of them and requested removal of the obsolete ones. Second, packages not maintained by the DOG that have reverse dependencies on the octave3.2* packages. The situation of each one of these packages have been analyzed and appropriate bug reports with patches have been filed [3]. We have also filed a RC bug report (Bug#661521) against the octave package currently in unstable (version 3.6.1-4). We will wait until all Octave-Forge packages, at least, are ready for migration into testing before we close that bug report. The expected date when this will happen is April 15, 2012. Best, Rafael Laboissière [1] http://wiki.debian.org/Teams/DebianOctaveGroup#Migration_to_git-buildpackage_and_Octave_3.6 [2] http://octave.sf.net [3] http://wiki.debian.org/Teams/DebianOctaveGroup#Reverse_dependencies_on_octave3.2.2A_packages -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Hi, adrian15 wrote (06 Apr 2012 18:39:46 GMT) : I've even improved the part about checking that the iso was mounted that intrigeri pointed out at: http://lists.debian.org/debian-live/2011/09/msg00067.html So you have replaced grep -q /live/findiso /proc/mounts umount /root/live/findiso with [ ! -z ${mountpoint} ] umount /root/live/findiso It seems more fragile to me than what the original patch did (although it did in a way I did not like); but maybe you can explain us why this new check is sufficient and/or better suited than the old one? Well, actually, I wanted to ask you what did you mean when you said that exactly but I didn't think of sending you an email. I suggested using the mountpoint *command* instead of the ugly grep hack. I can re-submit the patch without this change or try to implement whatever you meant if you explain it. Please do. I get no sound. I have to go to a shell and run amixer. My sound card is a Sound Blaster Audigy using the emu_10k1 module. Apparently, Audigy/Analog digital output jack is set to on, which effectively mutes the card. Oops, looking at the utils.sh script, it is explicitly set to on there. Do we know exactly why this is so? This is fixed while doing an Ubuntu merge last upload (1.0.25-1). Err, in 1.0.25-1, switch_control Audigy Analog/Digital Output Jack on is still there... So this must be done by the driver itself. There is a passus in /etc/init.d/alsa-utils where this switch_control can be explicitly set off: # for CTL in \ # Audigy Analog/Digital Output Jack \ # SB Live Analog/Digital Output Jack # do # switch_control $CTL off # done I don't have an Audigy handy for testing, though. Bug#666359: cabal-install
Dear Cabal developers, I just noticed debian bug #666359: The current cabal-install in Debian (0.10.2) cannot be build at the moment and we should upgrade to a version compatible with the Cabal shipped with GHC 7.4.1, i.e. 0.14 (?). For some reason, no cabal-install-0.14 has been uploaded to Hackage. Is there a reason for that? What is the official release of cabal-install compatible with GHC 7.4.1 – the one shipped in the GHC source tree, or the one living in http://darcs.haskell.org/cabal-branches/cabal-1.14/cabal-install, or some other? I’d be grateful for some clarification, and possible an upload to hackage of the cabal-install version you want Debian users to use. Aurélien further found this: 10:25 aurel32 what i know about jemalloc so far: 10:25 aurel32 - it works with version 7 10:25 aurel32 - it doesn't with version 8 10:26 aurel32 - using the jemalloc from version 8 in firefox 7 still works 10:26 aurel32 - building with --disable-jemalloc make firefox working Mike, is disabling jemalloc to make it build an option or would you prefer to dig into the problem? Currently iceweasel is blocking the rebuild of libproxy, which is the only initially imported package left. Kind regards Philipp Kern signature.asc Description: Digital signature
Bug#642136: Policy with two groups
May I suggest another approach: make permissions same way as with cups printing: 'lp' group for those who are allowed to print, and 'lpadmin' group for those who are allowed to manage printers. Analogous to that: there exists 'netdev' group to allow use and switch existing connection profiles. Add 'netadmin' group to allow managing system connections. A simple policy as described here https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Network_manager#Can.27t_edit_connections_as_normal_user applied to new 'netadmin' group would increase manageability of the system. Regardless of group policy, new wireless connection profile should be created with user acl, without asking for privilege escalation. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#666714: emacs: Emacs 23.4+1-2 freezes with 100% CPU usage with option --daemon
Package: emacs Version: 23.4+1-2 Followup-For: Bug #666714 As additional info, Emacs in text mode in my computer (i.e. `emacs -nw` or plain `emacs` without a DISPLAY environment variable) hangs after showing the Welcome to GNU Emacs screen. However, running `emacs` with normal GUI support, then running `server-start` from there lets me open and close `emacsclient` frames normaly, and closing the main Emacs frame afterwards doesn't result in it getting frozen. So if you have a running X session, keeping a main Emacs frame open and starting the server in there may help as a termporary workaround for running clients. -- System Information: Debian Release: wheezy/sid APT prefers unstable APT policy: (500, 'unstable') Architecture: amd64 (x86_64) Kernel: Linux 3.2.0-2-amd64 (SMP w/2 CPU cores) Locale: LANG=ca_ES.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=ca_ES.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash Versions of packages emacs depends on: ii emacs23 23.4+1-2 emacs recommends no packages. emacs suggests no packages. -- no debconf information -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#666359: cabal-install
[Resend to people listed as authors, as cabal-devel does not allow non-subscribers to post. This is not the best behavior for the address listed in the Maintainers field of a cabal package...] Dear Cabal developers, I just noticed debian bug #666359: The current cabal-install in Debian (0.10.2) cannot be build at the moment and we should upgrade to a version compatible with the Cabal shipped with GHC 7.4.1, i.e.
