Hi Brice, If you really plan to try Debian again of this laptop once it works again, we can keep the bug open. If not, I can close it and invite people to reopen in case somebody ever reproduces your problem. I suggest you close it. If I get the laptop working again then I'll try and re-produce the problem and re-open the bug. Cheers, Ralph. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? The hardware cursor can appear corrupt depending on the cursor glyph used. The problem doesn't occur with the software cursor, `Option SWCursor true', or when viewing `xfd -font cursor'. The XC_left_ptr when drawn with a black centre and a white outline has its outline broken by an extra black pixel immediately to the right of what should be the topmost black pixel. There's also an extra black pixel breaking the outline immediately to the right of the single black pixel making the bottom-left tail of the arrow-head. Re: More git policy: xsfbs and bundled apps packages
On Sat, Jan 13, 2007 at 01:00:34AM +1100, Drew Parsons wrote: David wrote: On Wed, Jan 10, 2007 at 04:31:07PM +1100, Drew Parsons wrote: The apps are fairly easy. We use the upstream* branches and just extend it so we have individual upstream* branches for each upstream app repo. These all get merged in to debian as the need arises. Is it as simple as that? The upstream apps are all separate repos, but for our convenience we've collected them into single packages, for instance xbase-clients (also xprint-utils and xutils). So we'd want xbase-clients managed as only one repo, at least as far as the debian* branches go, which conflicts with all the individual upstream* branches... We should be able to. You can test it yourself. Make a temporary repo with a file a in it. Once this is checked in, make a second branch with a file b. Then go back to the master branch and make a third branch with a file c. Your layout will be like this then: branchfiles - - mastera seconda b third a c Then you can go back to master and pull second and third in independantly. You'll end up with master having files a, b, and c. This is pretty much the model for these packages. Since the second and third branches are unaware of each others individual files, they don't get deleted when their changes are pulled in to the master branch. Does it have a concept of subrepos where a subdirectory pulls from a different repo? I presume not otherwise this would have solved the xsfbs problem.)... Git doesn't have the concept of subrepos unfortunately. It'd be nice, but this method should make it work. And we wouldn't have to change our packaging or anything. OK, that seems to work for merging directories, although as Michel pointed out it's not quite the same thing as our arrangement for apps, where starting with branchfiles - - mastera secondb third c we would want pull/merge to turn master into master: a second/b third/c Without a way of shifting directories like this in git, I can't see the solution to this question. Michel spotted the problem in the scheme for the apps (which I can't believe I missed). I tried moving the files to subdirs, but git doesn't cope with that so well. I've been thinking about any alternate options for a few days, but there's nothing that's really good. I see two ways forward: 1) Repackage every app individually like they were originally. 2) Just import tarballs for releases on these apps and split out any that we might really want to keep in git. I'm strongly leaning towards the second option. The tarballs option is fine for these things because they're mature (i.e. all but dead). It's not like it would be really hard to repackage them individually, but I don't think it's worth it. Maybe one day we can also figure out a way to make git handle this scenario properly. I can't think of any of the apps that we'd particularly want to split out right now either, except maybe xrandr. On the other hand, doesn't this solve the xsfbs sharing problem? xsfbs can have its own repo, with the files in debian/xsfbs. Then any of our packages can git-pull that repo to get their own debian/xsfbs copy updated. The only difference is that this git-pull won't happen automatically the way it did with svn (or can a hook be created to do so?). You've got the idea exactly. This does solve the xsfbs problem just fine, so think we're good to go there. Basically someone would have to manually update all the different repos with the updated version of xsfbs. We could create a script to do this if we want. I'd be in favor of making it the responsibility of the person changing xsfbs to also update all the repos, at least by default, just to make sure we have some sort of expectation of how the work is to get done. Anyone else could do it or help out, of course. - David Nusinow -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Contact [EMAIL PROTECTED]

It seems to me to make merging much more difficult, since I'll pretty much only be merging debian into upstream branches and not vice-versa. How do you do prepare uploads that need to go to unstable when you've also got a newer version in experimental? You're right, upstream-experimental and debian-experimental should be there, I just hadn't gotten there yet =). I was just commenting about the autoconf stuff in the upstream branches. I'd like to stick with keeping upstream branches identical to upstream release tags. That works fine for me. It's the way I originally wrote the policy for all the repos :-) You're right about the autoconf stuff in the upstream-* branches, that shouldn't be there. But I think it's useful to have the upstream version that'll be uploaded to experimental in upstream-experimental. Do you want me to remove the autogenerated autoconf stuff from the upstream-* branch(es)? No need, I'll take care of it when I upgrade to the next upstream release. Bug#181423: xserver-xfree86: [core server] should not change keyboard repeat settings on non-X VCs
About 4 years ago, you reported a bug to the Debian BTS regarding the keyboard repeat settings non changing on non-X VCs. Did you reproduce this problem recently? If not, I will close this bug in the next weeks. Currently, it seems that if I use X and then log in to a VC, the Debian default rate is on. But I can set the rate and delay via /sbin/kbdrate, and go back to X and then return to the VC with my (modified) preferred rate still OK. However, I have to become root to run /sbin/kbdrate; otherwise I get an Operation not permitted error. I've put /sbin/kbdrate in root's .bash_profile, so that if I log in as root before logging in as myself on a different VC, the rates will be OK. If I log in to a VC and set the rate I like before bringing up X, when I return to the VC the rates are OK. I'll check on my other Debian box later today and make sure it behaves the same way. -- Andy Young -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Debian bug tracking system administrator (administrator, Debian Bugs database) ---BeginMessage--- Package: xserver-xfree86 Version: 4.2.1-12.1 Severity: normal X used to work fine until a few days ago; unfortunately I don't know what I did just before it stopped working. The one thing I do know is that we blew a fuse, and the computer shut down; when I turned the power back on, X no longer worked. (I am not sure if any files were mangled. I use ext3, and at boot time it reported `23 orphan inodes deleted' on my root filesystem; there are no entries in /lost+found.) I frequently do `apt-get update; apt-get upgrade', so it's possible that some package changed. And when it first failed, the symptom was different; I can no longer reproduce that particular behavior. All I can remember is that the message originally was `Fatal server error: lockup'. I then tried various different X servers, hoping that one would work; none did, and I reverted to the present one. `apt-get --reinstall install xserver-xfree86' didn't help. Bug#235704: MonitorLayout detection fails with VGA + S-Video out on Radeon 7000 / QY
On Sunday 14 January 2007 17:09, Brice Goglin wrote: Hi Josh, About 3 years ago, you reported a bug to the Debian BTS regarding monitor layout failing with VGA/Svideo output on a Radeon 7000 QY board. Did you reproduce this problem recently? If not, I will close this bug in the next weeks. Thanks, Brice Brice, Thanks for checking. I still have the workaround (manually specifying MonitorLayout in xorg.conf) implemented, so I don't know if xorg now correctly detects things. I'll try to find a convinient time in the next couple days to restart X with that line commented out to see if the bug is fixed. Checking the behavior on the second Debian box shows that: 1. The keyboard rate is reset to the Debian default every time I bring up X. Then to get the VC keyboard rate I want, I have to run the kbdrate command again (as root). 2. If I reset the rate after bringing up X, the rate stays where I set it, even when I log in on a new VC. Apparently, there's something in the startup of X that resets the keyboard delay and rate. Please keep this bug alive. -- A. T.
