I've rewritten a lot to break it down to the most important facts
first and then three sub-pages for more information about installation
and usage. I think this is now enough to get an impression for the
German speaking crowd. Please review/comment/edit as you like.

It's at

I updated it a bit a few days ago but it could use more editing.

 Looks like it ... investigating.

Restarting it as suggested by William did teh trick. Note that instead
of LaTeX we no use jsmath fonts.

Thanks. I think links to these introductions in different languages should be
in the main page or in the frontpage of the wiki.

good base for writing the German text?

2008-01-18 Thread Harald Schilly

Well, don't waste your time. I'm in favour of a complete rewrite. 1/3
length, splitting into sub-pages and so on. (e.g. a introduction
doesn't have to mention all the packages, the install procedure and
also not the ?? help function which tells you about the internals ...
that's definitely no introduction)
Just a smaller text is far better, because people are very impatient
and nobody wants to reads so much text.

[sage-devel] Re: German Sage Introduction

2008-01-18 Thread Martin Albrecht

 I was just doing a slight grammar improvement. However, if it should
 be rewritten: Where is an English or French source that would be a
 good base for writing the German text?

The original text was:

   http://wiki.sagemath.org/A_short_introduction_to_SAGE

which is also totally (totally!) outdated, e.g.

  * we ship many more packages = broader scope
  * the acronym was dropped
  * the contact e-mail shouldn't be William's private e-mail anymore but the
 mailinglist
  * the URLs are outdated = http://www.sagemath.org

so this text could also be updated/edited/removed.

Maybe the frontpage of http://www.sagemath.org would be a nice starting point
for a translation/a new intro?

Or, maybe David Joyner (who wrote the original intro) or somebody else is
interested in updating/revising it?

Anyway, thanks for looking into this.

Martin
