Sending a buddy request in ICQ fails when using libpurple

2009-08-02 Thread michaelcbr...@msn.com
Hi,

Typically, when using libpurple, calling purple_account_add_buddy()
automatically sends a buddy request to the buddy you are trying to add.
This works fine with AIM, Yahoo, and MSN, but fails in ICQ. Calling
purple_account_add_buddy() does not send a buddy request, nor does it
actually add the person to the buddy list on the server side.

In pidgin, yes it does work...you can send a buddy request through the
menu and the buddy will receive it successfully...but in libpurple, a
call to purple_account_add_buddy() is clearly not producing the same
result for ICQ.

Does anyone know how to fix this problem? Or is this a bug in libpurple
that needs fixing?

Thanks,
Michael

Open source just means that you can modify the source code to remove the
advert generation. It doesn't prevent adverts, but any such bit of open
source software that is used by users with programming skills will
quickly get forked into a version without the adverts!

RFC1855 says there should be an address here, but, in a world of spam,
that is no longer good advice, as archive address hiding may not work.

Two Questions

2009-08-02 Thread Michael Wolf

I have two issues:

First, I am porting from Windows to Linux, and for now, am porting GAIM
1.3.1 over to Windows on a Virtual Box (thus issue 2.) I need to know how
to get GAIM 1.3.1 to recognize my user data in the .gaim folder (which I
cannot recreate by the way.) I see no configuration files in the program
files for gaim.

Second, I am not comfortable with the newer version of Gaim, Pidgin. I
prefer the interface and features of Gaim, and want to find the linux
version to download. Your website is EXTREMELY difficult to navigate,
unfortunately, and I cannot find older versions to download, or any
mechanism by which to find such on the website. Could you please provide a
link to older versions, or an FTP site, or something where I can acquire a
copy of Gaim 1.3.1 for Linux (Ubuntu).

Thank you.

Re: Two Questions

2009-08-02 Thread Michael Secord
As long as you are using the location that the config files should be,
and use the same folder, in this case .gaim it shouldn't have any issues
picking them up.

As for finding Gaim 1.3.1, chances are you won't be able to, though I
won't say it's impossible. The Pidgin repositories on Pidgin's SF
project only goes back to 1.5.1 and Gaim's SF project repository is
empty. Not only is is bad security to use 1.3.1 as there are a lot of
fixes for security since then, as well as some required fixes to allow
certain protocols to continue working.

Re: Two Questions

I'm using a fresh Windows 2000 install on a Virtual Machine (Sun).
I can't find any application data. I also can't find it for my

It would be great if anyone out there has the Linux version

Thanks for your help. I used to be able to do all this stuff.

To find where the appdata folder should be, open a command prompt and
type %APPDATA% without the quotes and it'll show in the prompt what
the path to appdata is :) I hope that helps.
