Re: Help with Wox Pidgin plugin

2022-12-11 Thread Eion Robb
Hi Jakub,

I've not used wox before, but looking at the source code for that wox
module it looks like you create a hard-coded list of XMPP contacts in a
contact.json file which looks like [{"name":"internal name", "alias":
"friendly name", "email": "xmpp address"}...] and then it calls an xmpp:
URI handler to send the message, assuming that Pidgin is installed as the
system XMPP handler?

Not the greatest workflow to be honest, and won't work with your Telegram
use-case. Something that used the Pidgin Dbus API to lookup current
contacts, and handled more than just XMPP would be cooler :)

Cheers,
Eion

You don't create accounts on Pidgin; you create them on a server, then
configure Pidgin to access them. There are many types of server that
Pidgin can use, and for some of those types, there are many possible
instance of servers.

Without knowing which type of server you are trying to connect to and
which particular instance, it is difficult to provide much help. In any
case, none of the servers will be under control of the people who

You need to contact the provider of the service you are using. Pidgin
is just a tool that passes the user and password on to the service
provider, and passes the provider's rejection back to you. It doesn't
decide whether or not they are correct.

There isn't enough information for me to guess your service provider.

Я пользуюсь, работает. Какое слово непонятно в инструкции
на https://github.com/EionRobb/icyque ?

Windows install

Download nightly builds of libicyque.dll and copy into your C:\Program Files
(x86)\Pidgin\plugins\ folder

If you haven't used one of my other plugins before, you'll need
libjson-glib-1.0.dll in your
C:\Program Files (x86)\Pidgin\ (not plugins!) folder

Скачать libicyque.dll и положить в указанный каталог plugins и ещё скачать
libjson-glib-1.0.dll
и положить в каталог Pigdin, это всё при закрытой программе, разумеется.
Потом запустить Pidgin заново и создать новую учётку в нём для ICQ WIM со
старыми данными.

You will need to ask icq.net's operators, but rate limiting generally
means that there have been excessive numbers of attempts to do
something, and a proportion of those are being rejected without
attempting to process them further than an immediate rejection.

Hi Wade,

Yahoo shouldn't be listed as a protocol as the old prpl was retired. There
was a new prpl "Yahoo (2016)" which can be downloaded from
https://developer.pidgin.im/wiki/ThirdPartyPlugins#AdditionalProtocols but
that will stop working in July when they turn off that new service.

You are trying to use a service that was removed from Pidgin with the
previous release, 2.12.0, since it could no longer be supported.

Yahoo Messenger itself is being discontinued from July 17th this year,
so your options have become limited.

Re: Help if You Can

2017-06-01 Thread Eion Robb
Hi Dawn,

I'm not very familiar with AIM, but you can try changing around the
'Authentication method' in the Advanced tab and see if that helps your
situation? You might also want to try looking at the debug log (from the
buddy list, Help->Debug Window) as you reconnect to the account to see if
there's any more-detailed info. If you get stuck with that, you can try
posting it to the support list and we might be able to see what's happening.

Probably not, there isn't really any support "staff", just volunteers
and other users (and I'd be wary of any private offer to remote into

If you can describe details about what is happening, or what you've

We also used to get a lot from Olark. I assume they improved
communication with their contractors (as I believe they still use, or
at least offer, Pidgin). I think it's because Oracle a) uses Pidgin
as official policy, and b) does not provide good guidance or tech
support to their users. I don't think it's any sort of complicated

There seems to be some confusion here. Oracle IT support have said they
don't support Pidgin, but that doesn't mean that it isn't the
recommended client for their internal IM system. There are just too
many Oracle employees failing to use it for it not to have been
recommended by someone in Oracle. My response was saying, if IT don't
support it, who recommended it, as they presumably have to support it.

(On the other hand, I think it was eventually concluded that this
particular case was an Oracle employee trying to use Pidgin for personal
use.)

The standard response to Oracle employees is now as follows:

"Try this Oracle knowledge base article:

http://my.oracle.com/site/git/1591/index.htm

You must be logged into the Oracle VPN to view it."

I presume that no-one on this list actually knows what is in that article.

David, there are a lot of Oracle employees who use it. I see them on the
group all the time asking for help and I think their IT dept is either lazy
or claims because its not theirs, they cant help.

I'm aware of that, but assuming "done" was a typo for "don't", it is
possible that the advice to use Pidgin is coming from somewhere outside
the official IT department (this is actually how PCs first got used -
the IT departments of the times only dealt with mainframes).

Probably, but we have no idea what service you are using and almost
certainly no-one on the list will have any control over that service.
If you provide the debug log, as plain text, someone may be able to
guess what the service is and give some clues as to what may be wrong.

I have already followed below instruction given in this link
http://www.gundersen.net/pidgin-and-lync-problem-solved

That document says it uses SIPE. The first sentence on the page
referenced for that http://sipe.sourceforge.net/ says that it is a
third party plugin. This list does not support third party plugins.
There appears to be a fairly active support forum at
http://sourceforge.net/p/sipe/discussion/688534/

Also, it is worth noting that most of the Pidgin developers (I am not
one of them) are not great fans of Microsoft, so support for all things
Microsoft doesn't get a lot of priority. It is almost certain that none
of the developers has Lync experience, and quite possible that no-one
reading the list has ever connected Pidgin to Lync.

1. What is your operating system, its version, and can you provide other

2. Which version of Pidgin did you download and from where? The latest version

3. Did you follow this guide -

The window may have just fallen outside of your screen.

When you right click the tray icon, is the context menu there?

If you double click the buddy list and it doesn't appear on your screen,
you can reposition it to a screen with Windows Key + Right (or left, etc).

If that does't work you may also want to close and rename
your %appdata%\.purple directory then reopen.

Finally, if that doesn't work, I'd advise to Uninstall via control panel
and re-install.

I strongly suggest upgrading to Pidgin 2.10.9, however, I doubt that
will fix this login problem.

Have you been able to login to gtalk using any other programs on this

https://support.google.com/talk/answer/24073?hl=en (found by googling
gtalk settings for pidgin).

I don't think anyone here can answer the questions about proxies, as
they depend on your local environment. In fact, if you have to use
them, you probably need to talk to your IT manager, as they may be
blocking gtalk.

One thing I would note is that gtalk's native clients are being end of
lifed about now:
http://www.ticbiz.com/Blog/Post/10/Google-TalkEnd-of-Life-February-2014.
Although this says that third party clients can still be used, I would
expect things to fall into disrepair.

Re: Help connecting with Google Talk

2013-12-04 Thread Tres Finocchiaro
@Julie,

Depending on your network configuration, port 5222 may be blocked.

Can you change some settings and see if this helps? This has helped me
several times in the past.

1. Accounts, Manage, Modify
2. Advanced
3. Connect port: 80
4. Connect server: talk.google.com
5. Save
6. Uncheck and then recheck the box. Accept the certificate when prompted.

If this is unsuccessful and you need to restore the default settings:

1. Connect port: 5222
2. Connect server: blank

Whatever you've got, it's not connected to pidgin. pidgin installs only
pidgin itself, and possibly GTK+ (although I think it's embedded in

I can definitely confirm that this happens to me whenever I travel.

I live in Canada, when BeeJive moves their IM proxies or my mail server
moves to a new IP, Google throws me warnings about my account possibly
being compromised due to being accessed from different geographic
regions. Once I confirm that it's me, their algorthims learn.

A similar thing happens when I travel, I was fine accessing my account
from the UK and a few different cities in Germany, but when I was
accessing my machine at home over a VPN and I tried to access my
Calendar, Google again locked me out until I confirmed that all of the
connections were legitimate -- In other words, travel was fine, but both
traveling and accessing from home was suspicious.

It's been a couple trips since I've had more than a request to
re-authenticate, so I suspect their algorthims have figured out that I
travel and where I travel and that my normal access continues.

 Dear Sir,

The method to start Pidgin depends on your operating system. On windows you
would just need to press the Windows key, type the word Pidgin and press
enter.

Many modern Linux based systems Pidgin can be found through the same
method, however if not you can usually find it in the operating systems
menus under the Internet section.

It would then start up and show you a Wizard to help add accounts.

I hope you understand, this is a community supported program, so you will
need to keep support@pidgin.im on CC of all replies. Use Reply All
when replying to emails.

   - Assuming you are on Windows7, look for the tray icon in the system
   tray and double-click it.
   - Your buddy list window should appear with nothing in it.
   - Click Accounts, Manage, Add, Yahoo. Type in your credentials.

If this works successfully, you should see your buddies appear in the buddy
list window.

If this does not work successfully, try exiting the system tray icon by
Right Clicking it, and then launching it again from the start menu.

If you are not running Windows, the instructions may differ slightly, but
should still get you up and running with Yahoo.

Recent enough versions of Pidgin (and you should use the most recent one) have
a preset for automatically adding a Google Talk account. It's under Accounts -

Kenneth Petit spake unto us the following wisdom:
Can you tell me what error Regristration Failure 409 Conflict means.
Getting this when trying to add an account. This account had been
created a long time ago and I am trying to set it up again due to my
PC crashed and and had to be reimaged so I lost all application. I did
not record the password I used to originally create the pidgin account
on our company server so I am thinking that might be the cause of the
 409 error.

It means you're checking the 'register' box, but the account already
exists. Don't check that box, you don't need it.

If you need additional assistance, you'll need to contact corporate
IT.

Does those characters work in other programs, like Notepad?

 Pidgin doesn't need settings changed to support any language;
you should be able to chat in any language out of the box.

RE: Help required on Language Settings in Pidgin

2012-01-09 Thread Akash Basu
Hi Daniel ,

Those characters work very well on Word Docs because my Word Docs are in
Spanish. Those characters are automatically detected in the word document and
provides option because I switch between British English and Spanish
International.

Is there any possibility to do so in the Pidgin also.

Thank You
Akash

RE: Help required on Language Settings in Pidgin

2012-01-05 Thread Akash Basu
Hi Daniel ,

I know that I can type whatever I want in the chat box. But I don’t find the
special character that we need to use in Spanish in the chat box. Because of
this I am unable to write correct words in the chat box.

Thanks
Akash

Do you have Spanish language and keyboard support in Windows (I assume
you're using Windows)? If you don't then you need to install it, and
then selecting the Spanish keyboard should then enable accented
characters.

If you want spell checking you can add the languages you want via the
internationalisation options in the Pidgin installation program.

Pidgin doesn't send any text messages to any phones. This is

'Not Authorized' is almost always indicative of an incorrect password.

If you have double- (and possibly triple-) checked your password in pidgin
and are still getting that error then open the Help-Debug Window attempt
to connect again and then include the contents of the debug window in
another email.
