[Bug 481498] [NEW] Gears do not work in prism

2009-11-12 Thread Andrei Dziahel
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gears

I've installed gears package, and prism applications show Gears addon in
addon list.

But when I try to install, say, Gmail Offline, or GReader offline, or
anything uses gears in prism, relevant webapps ask me to install Gears,
not Allow using Gears to this application?

[Bug 459423] Re: Unable to play video from Youtube plugin results

2009-11-12 Thread Saïvann Carignan
Isn't there anyone else to test the jaunty fix?

Jean Levasseur : Can you always reproduce this issue? And if yes, do you
have some steps for us so we can verify if this bug has been introduced
by my patch or not? In my case, the fix worked correctly each time I
tried it.

[Bug 418627] Re: [Regression] No sound in Karmic (HDA Intel ICH6 Realtek ALC260)

2009-11-12 Thread Malaria
On karmic it was 1.0.21and the build date was not coherent (as I
remember).

I will retry this with a newer snapshot (or it's perhaps better to wait
for the coming-soon release of 2.6.32 rc7 ?)

Boot, Fn-F2 toggles wi-fi and does NOT cause a kernel crash. Not much

[Bug 377029] Re: Copying from mounted ISO makes files instead of folders

2009-11-12 Thread Joe Berry
I am unable to reproduce the problem. I have tried it on 8.10 and 9.10.
I must not be doing something right. You mention in the original posting
that you were copying Elive files. I know there's an Elive distro --
is that what you're referring to? Otherwise, what are Elive files? Can
you create a really small ISO image that you can attach?

[Bug 371382] Re: OpenOffice crashes, when trying to open a template

2009-11-12 Thread jbatista
I have the same problem with openoffice.org 1:3.0.1-9ubuntu3.1. I'm
running Ubuntu Jaunty, 2.6.28-12-netbook-eeepc kernel on a Eee PC
(1000H), which is a i386.

After I removed openoffice.org-gtk (which also removed openoffice.org-
gnome) the problem disappeared. Reinstalling the gtk package restores
the crash.

To reproduce the problem:
1. Start OpenOffice.org.
2. Go to File - New - Templates and documents ...
3. On the left pane, select Templates (or Modelos in pt-PT).
4. Select any of the three text options in the middle pane. OOo crashes.

All other actions appear to function as normal. For example, it is still
possible to go to the Template Organizer on the window mentioned in item
3 above, and import a new template from a file.

Under the OpenOffice.org Paths submenu in the OOo configuration, the
following paths are included but absent:
- /usr/share/templates/ooo/common
- /usr/share/templates/ooo/pt
- /usr/share/templates/ooo2/common
- /usr/share/templates/ooo2/pt
- /usr/lib/openoffice/basis3.0/share/template/common
However, the path that was selected does exist and user has write-permission
for it: $HOME/.openoffice.org/3/user/template

I'm appending a crash report log output from the Java JRE.
The selected environment was Sun's Java 1.6.0_0 which is installed in
/usr/lib/jvm/java-6-openjdk/jre

[Bug 479351] Re: Tramsmission broke and lost all my torrents (data)

2009-11-12 Thread Carl Roberson
I'll try to explain again, I quit Transmission working at night and when
I woke up there was an error and could not log into my Linux, but not
kernel panic, probably a bug in the X interface or know it, is that
after turning off and connect my laptop all the downloads were at zero
percent, some were already finished and I was just Seeding, all went to
zero percent, another factor is that the Torrents (data) are
automatically re-created in the default directory.

Sorry my english.

Running ubuntu-bug on my remote system via ssh, I can't file a bug.
ubuntu-bug gives me a URL, but when I try to load it, I get:

 Oops!

Sorry, something just went wrong in Launchpad.

We’ve recorded what happened, and we’ll fix it as soon as possible. Apologies
 for the inconvenience.

 (Error ID: OOPS-1412C2347)

This happens reliably every time for linux-generic. It worked here
though, with ubuntu-bug apport.

How soon will it become mainstream?

[Bug 296610] Re: ALPS DualPoint Touchpad flaky performance

2009-11-12 Thread Dave
Moving Stick/Pad pointer spews just this:

[112187.964927] alps.c: report ps2 pkt 0

This is the sequence of packets doing +PadLeft, +StickLeft, -StickLeft,
-PadLeft:

[112192.799333] alps.c: report pad pkt 1
[112192.799337]
[112196.169118] alps.c: report ps2 pkt 1
[112196.169122]
[112201.379772] alps.c: report ps2 pkt 1
[112201.379776]
[112204.198994] alps.c: report pad pkt 0
[112204.198998]

Each action generates a packet. Only 3 events get translated by the
driver into the input layer. It appears the third packet is ignored -
the first release (-StickLeft) isn't propagated.

[Bug 446889] Re: Linksys WUSB54GC v3 (ID 1737:0077) doesn't work

2009-11-12 Thread AartCK
yes, I mean the patch from #21

BTW when I installed it, I could install the kernel-image ok, but the
kernel-headings would not install because a dependency was missing.
Should I force the installation of the headers?

[Bug 472244] Re: System freezes reproducibly when zooming in evince

2009-11-12 Thread Christoph
I have the same problem (Xubuntu Karmic). It seems to me that evince
mainly freezes the system when zooming large files or files that are not
yet completely loaded.

Sebastien (comment #4): How long time should I give the system to answer your
question? Is a couple of minutes enough? (this did not help)
I never get apport crash reports (I'm not sure it is enabled, but maybe it's
also because of the system locking up totally).

[Bug 481510] [NEW] Can't read temperature with i2c_i801 anymore

2009-11-12 Thread Jeremy Nickurak
Public bug reported:

In hardy through jaunty I used the i2c_i801 module with lm-sensors to
read my CPU temperature. Now, dmesg reports the following error when I
try to load it:

[64661.056023] ACPI: I/O resource :00:1f.3 [0x3080-0x309f] conflicts with
ACPI region SMB0 [0x3080-0x3097]

use it instead of the native driver
[64661.056037] i801_smbus: probe of :00:1f.3 failed with error -16

sensors-detect doesn't recommend anything else anymore.

As a result, all the applications that monitor temperature on my system
are failing.

[Bug 481509] [NEW] Scrapbook extension 1.3.3.9 is not compatible with Firefox 3.5.5

2009-11-12 Thread Bruno Girin
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: scrapbook

The Ubuntu Karmic repositories include Firefox 3.5.5 and the ScrapBook
extension v 1.3.3.9. Unfortunately, when installing ScrapBook from the
repositories (rather than from the Mozilla site), the extension is
disabled as ScrapBook 1.3.3.9 is not compatible with Firefox 3.5.5.
ScrapBook needs to be updated to a version that is compatible with the
version of FF installed by default.

[Bug 481459] Re: Memory leak when PDF objects are dragged around.

2009-11-12 Thread tehf0x
I recall the other bug, and noticed that it seems to have gotten fixed
in Karmic (thanks btw, that bug got me a lot). This doesn't actually
open a new window, and I'm not even sure the image actually has the time
to get dragged before compiz greys the window out. One thing is sure is
that it consistently triggers a memory leak if I left-click on the
document and then move the mouse.

Not sure what you meant by the 'test cases' for the other bug.

Thanks for looking into this!

No worries, that's why I posted it as cosmetic. Have fun at UDS :-)

To be honest, this is not a high priority right now for me. UDS is

I'm pretty sure I've described this elsewhere, but we don't currently
query the primary monitor as there wasn't yet API to do this (which I
now have a patch for, but it won't make it into Karmic).

In the case of the primary monitor being your left monitor, xsplash
happens to be correct (just incidentally), but gdm displays on the right
monitor. That seems like maybe a gdm bug. In the case of the primary
monitor being on the right, xsplash can be fixed using my new API patch.

[Bug 420488] Re: Can't create file/directory on desktop using right mouse button menu if desktop_is_home_dir

2009-11-12 Thread Sense Hofstede
I can't confirm this bug on an up-to-date version of Karmic. I used to have
some problems with it, but they are fixed now.
It could have something to do with the XDG Dir settings, could you please
attach ~/.config/user-dirs.dirs with and without desktop_is_home_dir enabled?
The ~ stands for your home directory, directories with names starting with a
dot, like .config, are hidden by default, so they won't be visible in Nautilus.
You could show the hidden directories with the short-cut Ctrl+H or by toggling
File-Show Hidden files. Thanks in advance.

[Bug 409575] Re: told ubiquity to install grub to sda6, but it breaks grub on mbr

2009-11-12 Thread walterav
I fixed my mbr this time by restoring the whole 512 bytes, because ubuntu
installed it to the mbr on /dev/sda instead of /dev/sdf...
I tried one more install with automated partitioning using use entire disk on
a external usb disk. This time with manually selecting to install the mbr/grub
in /dev/sdf instead of hd0 at the advanced options box on page 7 of the
installer. This time the installation when fine, the internal disk is untouched
and still boots fine, and the external usb disk is created fine and boots
correctly.

Summary to all my posts above
1 Ubuntu installer behaves like a Windows xp installer which is in my opinion
not good!
2 The mbr of the first disk will be overwritten if anything needs to happen
to the first disk!
2a if /dev/sda will contain a already created swapfs partition, the ubuntu
manual partition installer will use it if you won't deselect it! So if you
don't change anything on the first disk, but only use its swapfs than mbr
gets broken!
2b if any other filesystems are recreated/reformated on /dev/sda the mbr gets
also broken!
2c if you are installing ubuntu to a external disk, even if you used the use
entire disk it will break the mbr
unless you manually select to put mbr/grub in the advanced options box to the
right disk on the last page of the installer!
3 Ubuntu summary at page 7 of the install is missleading and wrong! The
following devices etc etc will get changed/touched, if your installing to a
external drive like summary 2c it will still screw your first drive!

[Bug 481514] [NEW] since last update Ubuntu is running in low-graphics mode

2009-11-12 Thread Ákos Mattiassich
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xorg

This happened after update following packages:
$ grep xorg /var/log/aptitude
xorg 1:7.4+3ubuntu9 - 1:7.4+3ubuntu10
xserver-xorg 1:7.4+3ubuntu9 - 1:7.4+3ubuntu10

xserver-xorg-video-all 1:7.4+3ubuntu9 - 1:7.4+3ubuntu10

I can't get rid of low-graphics mode, if I choose Exit to console login, my
monitor displays only an error message, that signal is out of range.
Now i can communicate with my PC only via ssh.

[Bug 481509] Re: Scrapbook extension 1.3.3.9 is not compatible with Firefox 3.5.5

2009-11-12 Thread Bruno Girin
** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: scrapbook

The Ubuntu Karmic repositories include Firefox 3.5.5 and the ScrapBook
extension v 1.3.3.9. Unfortunately, when installing ScrapBook from the
repositories (rather than from the Mozilla site), the extension is
disabled as ScrapBook 1.3.3.9 is not compatible with Firefox 3.5.5.
ScrapBook needs to be updated to a version that is compatible with the
version of FF installed by default.

+ Steps to reproduce:
+ 1. Start Firefox
+ 2. Go to Tools - Add-ons
+ 3. Select the Extensions tab and un-install ScrapBook if it is installed
+ 4. Close Firefox
+ 5. Start Synaptic Package Manager
+ 6. Install the scrapbook package
+ 7. Start Firefox again
+
+ Expected behaviour:
+ Firefox shows that a new extension was installed successfully.
+
+ Actual behaviour:
+ Firefox shows that the ScrapBook extension was installed but it is disable
and an error message advising that ScrapBook 1.3.3.9 is incompatible with
Firefox 3.5.5 is shown.

[Bug 475706] Re: ondemand cpufreq governor broken on core 2 duo cpu

2009-11-12 Thread Gerhard Lang
This bug also affects audio production on -rt kernel, lot of Xruns if jackd is
configured for low latencies.
My workaround: inserted these lines into /etc/rc.local:
(sleep 2 echo 20
/sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu0/cpufreq/ondemand/up_threshold)
(sleep 2 echo 20
/sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu1/cpufreq/ondemand/up_threshold)
Now everything works fine with governor ondemand, without the heating and fan
noise I had by fixing at max fequency

[Bug 446891] Re: Should warn that formatting will erase the entire contents of the device (all partitions).

2009-11-12 Thread Tadej Rosa
Same here.
I have a 1 TB external HDD from WD. I wanted to use one of the two partitions
to make a Karmic live USB. The program listed three entries - the smaller, 50
GB partition sdb1 (which I selected, as it was empty), the 950 GB partition
sdb2 (which I used for storage purposes) and the whole physical device sdb.
I clicked Format, and an error came up. Sadly, I didn't write it down. I do
remember it was fairly technical. Convinced that something went wrong and
nothing happened, I tried to mount the drive (just in case, heh), only to find
a single, non-accessible (because it was in use) 1000 GB volume in the Places
menu. I checked Task Manager and found mkfs.vfat and dosfsck working happily in
the background.

before: 1 TB external HDD - 2 NTFS partitions; one 50 GB, empty; the
other 950, filled with 500 GB worth of backups of varying importance.

after: 1 TB external HDD - 1 FAT32 partition; empty, just shy of
terabyte.

Interestingly enough, the disk appears to be empty and thoroughly
unusable even for the program's intended purpose of making a bootable
live USB. But that's the least of my worries right now.

[Bug 404626] Re: Turning wifi off using Fn+F2 on Eee PC with Ralink rt2860 results in kernel panic (rfkill)

2009-11-12 Thread Stefan Bader
** Description changed:

+ SRU Justification:
+
+ Impact: Trying to turn of wireless via the Fn+F2 hotkey combination
+ results in a kernel panic when the hardware vanishes from under the
+ driver.
+
+ Fix: Test for NULL pointer (patch from 2.6.31.5)
+
+ ---
+
When I disable the wifi using Fn+F2, the system hangs with a kernel
  panic instead of disabling wifi.

I'll try to catch the panic message properly and attach it here (but the
machine doesn't have a serial port, so it might take some hacking).

[Bug 296610] Re: ALPS DualPoint Touchpad flaky performance

2009-11-12 Thread Erik
Sebastian,

I've uploaded a Youtube video demonstrating the bug. I'm certain that
I'm only using your patch, as I performed a clean installation before
doing my testing. I'm using an m4400, which seems to have the same
Dualpoint. You're right that the patch is a vast improvement, but the
buttons will still probably be a showstopper for me. I'd be happy to
provide any command input (lsusb, etc.) you want to see, or gather any
other information you need. Just let me know.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GqSZ-mftheMfmt=18

There are no apparent errors in the dmesg output.

Interestingly enough, regardless of whether or not I'm currently
experiencing the bug, I can reliably cause the driver to lose sync by
pressing all three of the touchpad buttons at once. Pressing all three
of the stick's buttons do not cause the driver to lose sync. I don't
know if this bug is related--it's certainly probably an uncommon
problem.
