[Bug 486384] [NEW] [lucid] network connection timing out

2009-11-21 Thread Ruben Verweij
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: network-manager

I am using Lucid. ;-)

I noticed that sometimes the wireless internet connection seems to be lost,
pages take ages to load and eventually I get a timeout error. When I reconnect
to the network via the network manager, everything starts working again for
twoish minutes before it breaks again and I'm forced to reconnect. Didn't
happen in any previous versions, so I'd say it's a regression.
I also have another problem with wireless connectivity which I think is related
(if not, I'll file another bug) - after resume from hibernation I can't
reconnect to my network and I am forced to do a reboot. In the log files you
can see that the connection times out every time.
I hope I gave enough information, if not, I will most happily provide it.

[Bug 162710] Re: Cannot access wireless networks keys when user change his session password.

2009-11-21 Thread komputes
I'm sorry, I did not know that I had set up two keyrings (login +
default). I was under the impression that I had only created one keyring
(default) when connecting to a wireless access point for the first time.

Milan, The only thing I can confirm is that this is very broken. I have
changed my password through users-admin and gnome-about-me
--password but both of them refuse to change my password (Spining wheel
thing never end). passwd from my user also cannot make the change
(perhaps because they are similar).

You can test this yourself, please share your results. Try changing a user
password from:
910??)ubuntu(!!910
to
910??)ubuntu(!!904

Please let me know if you are able to make this change?

The only way I can change my password is by using:
sudo passwd komputes

Since I use passwd (CLI, not a GNOME utility) I assume the (default?)
keyring password does not change.

[Bug 486386] [NEW] Boost dev packages do not include the boost asio library.

2009-11-21 Thread Nescire
Public bug reported:

Summary says it all. Taking a look around the repos, this problem is
still around in Karmic for the boost1.40-dev package.

Since this is usually the source of some confusion, I'll summarize the
asio situation here. Asio used to be a standalone library (currently in
the libasio-dev package), and was included in boost from 1.35 onward. A
corresponding Ubuntu package for libboost_asio never materialized
however.

This is especially frustrating since the libasio-dev package, which is
the same library but in a different namespace, seems to have been
updated to reflect its new dependency on boost.

[Bug 432310] Re: apt fails if dbus is not running

2009-11-21 Thread Chase
This is still a bug. As Juanca noted, using -S does not solve the issue.
I was trying to build the debian-installer, and the make always failed
because of this exact issue. When I changed the -S to -f, apt-get
started working again. I have reopened the bug as 'confirmed'.

[Bug 427362] Re: AHCI mode not supported

It seem’s that installing the last bios (send with windows 7) solve the problem
under packardbell too… but I can’t find the bios on packardbell site and one
send me the file but it’s for windows, I can’t install it from freedos (and
it’s too big).

Hi Jipson,

I'm sorry to hear Ubuntu One isn't working properly for you. Based on
that error message, I'm guessing you're behind some sort of proxy
server. Is that correct? If so, Ubuntu One won't currently work properly
behind a proxy server. If you aren't behind a proxy server then can you
try the following from a terminal session
(Applications-Accessories-Terminal) and let me know what it outputs?

Thank you,

[Bug 486390] [NEW] scim slows down keyboard input in Firefox

2009-11-21 Thread karatedog
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: scim

I'm using scim 1.4.9 in Ubuntu 9.10

scim:
  Installed: 1.4.9-1ubuntu2
  Candidate: 1.4.9-1ubuntu2

I experience slowdowns when entering text in Firefox wherever text could be
entered: address bar, text boxes, the bookmark organizer's Search box, or a
text box on a webpage.
Characters appear slowly, like the system is unable to empty the keyboard
buffer in time. If I press a key for a few seconds and release it, characters
keep appearing for 1-2 seconds. If I press a key for, about 10 seconds, the
Firefox window goes dark (indicating it is not responding)
The 3 main process that takes up most of the CPU:
Xorg: 18%
Firefox: 16%
scim-bridge: 12%
Things get much worse if the scim-launcher is activated (and displayed in the
screen) Entering characters become more sluggish, scim-launcher and
scim-bridge takes 18% and 14% of CPU.

Killing scim with 'pkill -9 ^scim' solves the problem, but starting it
again (scim -d) brings the problem back.

I haven't experienced this in other softwares (jedit, gedit).

I'm not sure if this is a Firefox bug so I'm reporting it as a possible
scim bug.

Re: [Bug 485471] Re: evolution crashed with SIGSEGV in g_signal_emit_valist()

2009-11-21 Thread heynnema
Hello Pedro,

I took a look at the DebuggingProgramCrash web page that you indicate.
However, at the bottom of the page, there's a question How do I undo
the debugging changes and go back to my normal configuration, and the
question goes unanswered. I went to check out the Evolution debugging
installation via Synaptics, and it seems to want to install an entire
new 7GB version of Evolution, with, I assume, debugging symbols. Should
I assume that: 1) I would need to deinstall the debug version, and
reinstall the normal version, when I'm finished, and 2) is the debug
version slower than the normal version?

Please advise.

[Bug 462764] Re: internal mic doesn't work on acer aspire 1410 (1080T)

2009-11-21 Thread Daniel T Chen
@Rud
I'm certain your issue has nothing to do with Acer Aspire 1410s. Please do the
following:

1) File a separate bug for your issue using ubuntu-bug alsa-base
2) Remove the model=auto quirk from /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf
3) Compile
http://kernel.org/pub/linux/kernel/people/tiwai/snapshot/alsa-driver-20091121.tar.bz2
 and install it
4) Reboot
5) Verify that internal mic does *not* work
6) Readd the model=auto quirk
7) Verify that internal mic *does* work

Also, play test playback through internal speakers and headphones and
capture through both internal and external microphones.

[Bug 468721] Re: (g)mplayer does not disable the screensaver

2009-11-21 Thread Eric Buist
I have the same problem too, and I have MPlayer
2.1.0-rc3+svn20090426-1ubuntu10. It thus seems that the screen saver fix
works only for 32 bits Linux.

[Bug 468254] Re: Only Headphone Jack sound after suspend/resume

2009-11-21 Thread schaze
Hello Daniel,

I did not want to complain but simply point out that this seems to be a problem
that affects several people and should be dealt with.
I appreciate very much that you take care of this problem in your free time, it
is people like you who make the open source community so successfull. Many
thanks for that!

I have followed all steps described by you. The problem is still the
same after the suspend/resume without pulseaudio. So this means it is
probably an alsa issue, right?

I have executed the apport command you posted (see the new attachments)
after the suspend/resume with the new alsa build linked by you.

Many thanks again for your support!
schaze

[Bug 486391] [NEW] Nautilus Crashes randomly: segfault at c ip 0811ac21 sp bff33b90 error 4

2009-11-21 Thread Tim Tilberg
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

I know there are a lot of Nautilus Crashing bugs, and I've read through
many of them -- I'm reporting this separately, and if it is a duplicate,
please mark so. I am doing this because most of them reference SIGSERV,
and I'm not sure if that's the same as segfault. Also, many of the bugs
include things related to Brasero, I'll comment on that in a moment.

I was having some problems with Nautilus crashing via an upgraded system
that was using pre-relase updates. There were also several other bugs,
thus I decided to do a fresh install yesteday (however, retaining my
/home).

Today I've had 2 random crashes of Nautilus, doing random things.
The first time, it crashed upon deleting a file in /home/.local/share/icons/.
3 files deleted without question one at a time, and then upon attempting to
delete the 4th file, nautilus crashed (including desktop icons). I didn't think
to work on logs/crash report at this time. I just thought weird and wrote it
off.

I restarted nautilus using the run program dialog -- I noticed it used
the Brasero icon (I noticed a lot of brasero affected crash bugs as
well, upon noticing the icon, I figured I'd add that note here too.). I
wanted to note I've done nothing with brasero or even insert a CD. This
is why I didn't mark it as a brasero related duplicate. The only thing
Brasero has to do with my computer is the package is installed by
default.

The second time was a few minutes later. I was in my /Music directory
and opened a file. I think I went to change to a different audio track
and both Nautilus and Totem crashed.

I have attached /var/log/messages and dmesg tails. The error in nautilus
looks like:

nautilus[1777]: segfault at c ip 0811ac21 sp bff33b90 error 4 in
nautilus[8048000+18f000]
