When you put it like that, that sounds fairly simple and non-intrusive. I’m also considering the impact as a whole - any new machines I create will be ever so slightly different than the others. Probably doesn’t matter, but at the moment we’re not in a super rush. I’ll give it till Monday morning to see if the correct fix will arrive, otherwise I’ll replace the kernel and initrd image. > We know it was working as recently as 2019-02-19 and first saw issues with it > shortly before 22:00 UTC on 2019-02-20. My suspicion is that something that depends on > libc6-udeb is actually what was changed and is causing the fault. My install image (with a modified boot meny, that loads the preseeding etc) is about a year old now, so not sure what the correct fix is. Updating our customised boot image would be a lot of work, so I’d prefer to have it fixed “correctly” (whatever it is). We haven’t used the image in several months, so didn’t notice until yesterday. [Bug 1540110] Re: gnome-disk-utility (shown as "Disks") shows SMART option grayed for USB connect disks despite being available.
Maybe it is due to the fact (https://www.smartmontools.org/wiki /Supported_USB-Devices) that USB connected disks usually need a '-d' option to enable S.M.A.R.T. support. In fact, for the same disk, trying first: $ sudo smartctl -d scsi -H -i -A -l error -l selftest '/dev/sdb' gives "SMART support is: Unavailable - device lacks SMART capability.", whereas: $ sudo smartctl -d scsi -d sat -H -i -A -l error -l selftest '/dev/sdb' gives "SMART support is: Available - device has SMART capability.//SMART support is: Enabled", and the full output expected. And also in GSmartControl I have to add the "-d sat" option to Preferences/Drives to enable S.M.A.R.T. support and view attributes. The difficulty to include this in gnome-disk-utility is that each disk needs a different "-d" option... -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1540110 Title: gnome-disk-utility (shown as "Disks") shows SMART option grayed for USB connect disks despite being available. [Bug 1458111] Re: Data corruption on exFAT USB sticks

[Bug 1094958] Re: User Management crashes on start up
A little bump. Anything yet ??? The user management is very important (I miss it :-( ). In the meantime, you can use usermod. For example, if you installed VirtualBox in Kubuntu 13.04, first you must add your user to the vboxusers group and then close session and login again. [Bug 1098423] [NEW] Kubuntu 13.04 User Management Crash
Public bug reported: Hi, I was trying to report this bug at KDE but instead they sent me here. As Ubuntu and Kubuntu are taking different paths I have some doubts if this part of Launchpad will be the one to post the bugs or some sort of http://bugs.launchpad.net/kubuntu; will be created in the future. Now back to business. This bug is very easy to replicate. All you get to do is open System Settings -- User Management and right away it crashes. You can repeat so many times as you like. I'm using Kubuntu 13.04, Kernel 3.8.0-030800rc1-generic (but it is the same with the original 3.7) plus full updates. The failing module is kcmshell4(). The attached info was created by Kubuntu. [Bug 751265] Re: pulseaudio distorts VLC audio
I have this issue on a fresh install of 12.10 AMD 64. Sound was bad from VLC launch. Like others, this choppiness would eventually go away on it own (see #59) and come back some time later. I could also fix the problem with a pause and then unpause. Moving the mouse (#55) also seemed to fix the problem quite often. I moved VLC from default audio to ALSA and this got rid of the static / echo / choppiness. There was much rejoicing. However, I then picked up problem #60. This is a somewhat acceptable solution - I usually just use the menu playback - jump backwards to fix the problem as this gives a more precise amount of replay and I never encounter the bad audio. I tried the famous fix #23 and it made things worse. VLC would start with no sound for about 20 seconds. Moving the slider to a new point resulted in the same no audio problem. I backed that out right away. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/751265 Title: pulseaudio distorts VLC audio To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/pulseaudio/+bug/751265/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1083299] Re: Kernel panic launching skype
Hi, I have a full patched Kubuntu 12.10 and yesterday the Kernel Panics started aleatory after upgrading to Skype 4.1 too. [Bug 751265] Re: pulseaudio distorts VLC audio
My five cents: I just upgraded to Kubuntu 12.10 beta 2 AMD64 with full updates and the awful cracking/echoing noise is still present in both VLC 2.0.3 and Skype 4.0.0.8 x64. My system is AMD based with 785G chipset. * The ¨rm ~/.pulse -rf¨ worked only for seconds until I closed and reopened VLC; no changes in Skype. * The solution at #23 solved inmediatly the cracking for both apps. On any case I'm still scared of how OLD this problem is. Come on, we are in 2012 and this thing is still chasing us five years later. I'm sure there is someone we can write an email or something to fix it FOREVER Regards. [Bug 1041711] Re: Mouse not clicking in Ubuntu 12.04
Hi, As I said before, Unity/Compiz look like the most possible reason other than Kernel. In my case, I don't use the candy stuff from Compiz; my daughter does and that's the most likely explanation as why I almost never get the problem. I downgraded both Ubuntus to the normal Kernel and, on top of that, my daugther is out of the country for a couple of months and, as you may guess, she took his precious Ubuntu away with her. [Bug 1041711] Re: Mouse not clicking in Ubuntu 12.04
Done! My Kernel now is 3.6.0-030600rc3-generic. The install process complained many times about missing stuff regarding my Radeon platform, then a broken update (but fixed anyway). I guess now comes the testing part, searching for the problem. Ok, will try a couple of days and will post my results. =) =) Greetings. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1041711 Title: Mouse not clicking in Ubuntu 12.04 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1041711/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1041711] [NEW] Mouse not clicking in Ubuntu 12.04
Public bug reported: Hi, I saw several people complaining about this but no oficial report on Launchpad. Problem: Once you log into a full patched Ubuntu 12.04, the mouse's clicking is gone in aleatory way. You can move the pointer around and the apps and dialogs feel its presence but you simply cant click on them. I remember this since Kernel 3.2.0-27 but now we have 3.2.0-29. I said we because the problem is exactly the same in two very diferents computers. The first in an AMD based PC using USB mouse, the other is an Intel laptop with integrated mouse and bluetooth external mouse. The problem goes away after several minutes, then comebacks again and so on. One of the consecuences is that you cant access the Unity bar. If someone can give me instructions in order to gather info about the specific package, please tell, because the instructions in Launchpad gave me no clue about which to report. Regards. ** Affects: ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1041711 Title: Mouse not clicking in Ubuntu 12.04 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1041711/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 836250] Re: [Oneiric] [Regression] Intel Corporation Centrino Ultimate-N 6300 poor networking, packet loss and very slow Lenovo X201 and T500 laptops
Hi, At first, I wasn't sure when started reading this -very long- post. My daughter's laptop is a Samsung with (also) an Intel Centrino-N 130 wireless card. All this paired with Ubuntu 12.04 x64 full patched several minutes ago. The wireless conection is failing frequently even when she is at less than 5 meters away from the router. [Bug 984586] [NEW] Ubuntu 12.04 external TV monitor problem
Public bug reported: More stuff to report, as usual, Ubuntu 12.04 beta 2 build 14/4/2012, booting from USB. Of course, I wanted to try the new TV (LCD, LG 32 using HDMI cable) as external monitor. It was detected right away but then I noted that even when it has the correct resolution (1920x1080) the top bar and the Dash board were wrong. No big deal, because I have also an ATI Radeon 6870 without the propietary drivers, was my first guess but then I did the same, booting from -this time- a Samsung laptop with a Core i5 and an integrated video card from Intel. And yes, exactly the same problem. If you look at the pics attached, you can see the hidden top bar (I clicked so the menu could be noted) and the Dash board partially hidden too. If you reduce the resolution below the recomended (ie, 1280x900) then everything if fine, as you all can see. Along with this problem, the Shutdown dialog is fine if you invoke it from the extended monitor but it run away to the secondary too if clicked from the main monitor. Best Regards. Turbo. PD: Not so sure if this is X.org or Kernel's fault. ** Affects: ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/984586 Title: Ubuntu 12.04 external TV monitor problem To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/984586/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 983505] Re: Ubuntu 12.04 beta 2 not showing copy progress dialog
Hi, Unfortunately , this problem seems to be quite sporadic as so far I had no luck replicating it :-( But anyway, there is pic attached and this is what happened: As you can see, the copy process is fine and running, but that time you were unable to show it. If you clicked, the folder opens, but not the dialog. Alt- Tab, even closing everything else neither, I also checked the working spaces to no avail. At the end, I just sit and waited until the folders finished, looking at the small progress in the Dash board. [Bug 984586] Re: Ubuntu 12.04 external TV monitor problem
Well, I did it again and... terrible! The two first times when you adjust the resolution, makes the whole Ubuntu crash, except the first time with only a moving mouse and everything else pretty dead. Then, the third time I set first the main monitor (mine, with DVI), applied changes with lower resolution and then set the HD resolution on the external TV. It was here when finally I could generate the apport with no crash. I had to choose a lower resolution supported by both displays. Something interesting is that Ubuntu is setting the external TV as the primary display by default (well, can't blame it as the TV is so much better than my Samsung monitor xD xD). This could explain why the dialogs are running away to the TV, as I commented the first time. [Bug 983505] Re: Ubuntu 12.04 beta 2 not showing copy progress dialog
Please, If there is any other way to make visible this dialog, let me know. Are you using some other build, more recent than 14/4 ?? [Bug 983505] Re: Ubuntu 12.04 beta 2 not showing copy progress dialog
I'm going to be even more precise: I never saw the copy dialog in the first place, just the small one on the icon. When I copied the second folder then I realized it was not possible to show it in full. [Bug 983505] [NEW] Ubuntu 12.04 beta 2 not showing copy progress dialog
Public bug reported: Hi all. I'm booting my USB with Ubuntu 12.04 beta 2 (build 14/April/2012). I booted to copy several folders from one partition to another (done right), the problem is that you can't see the copy dialog progress. In the left bar you see it copying but I tried HARD to make it show, including Alt-Tab, right click-- Show progress, Super-TAB, etc. So I had to wait until finished just looking the progress in the small icon. [Bug 963470] Re: [regression] Unity 5.8+Compiz 0.9.7.2: Pressing Super+Tab or Super+W works, but unity does not respond to when Super is released.
Hi, I'm also having lots of problems: The Super key is not showing the Keyboards Shortcuts (please, don't take this away, it's GREAT !), also, can't change between working spaces using Alt+ up, down, etc keys. This is weird, it was working a few builds ago. I just updated Ubuntu 12.04 beta 2 AMD64 with all the patches, the Unity version is 5.10, on VirtualBox 4.1.12. The problem with the Super key also happens with the 14/4 build booting from USB.
