I'm using Xacti CA6. I'm very like this camera because it's very small and I like it's performance. They're small (the HD version is about 2x the size of the C4, C5, C6 or the new h264 versions) and go with you anywhere. I've made many videos with them that I would not have otherwise because I wouldn't have bothered to bring a bigger camera along. The C5 (my camera) is the worst of the bunch in low light. It's unusable in someplace like a bar at night. Most of the sound issues can be solved by not zooming while you shoot and by learning how to manual focus with it. The HD cameras have a very annoying tendency to clip a normal speaking voice if it's too close to the mic, ie, your own voice. - Verdi On 7/7/07, David Meade [EMAIL PROTECTED] mailto:meade.dave%40gmail.com meade.dave%40gmail.com wrote: yeah I know there area bunch. Re: [videoblogging] Asterisk TV on Mogulus
Yo Randulo! Congrats on the successful show. I'd love to chat with you about Mogulus. We are getting ready to start a live show and it would be nice to share ideas. I'm thinking of trying to simulcast, using Blogtalk Radio and Mogulus. I'm having problems wrapping my head around the process though. I think I have Mogulus well in hand, but need some ideas to make it a better show (audio in particular). It doesn't seem as if there is the interest in Mogulus on the list here, and I always feel as if I'm wasting people's time with my thoughts anyway, so if you'd like to take this private, I'm sure we could help each other out. Give me a shout. They call in free using SIP. This was a real baptism by fire, live with no net, just an oldish not even S-video camcoder with a Senheiser mic connected for live audio and the office asterisk pbx for the guest and me to be connected to the callers. Lesson number one: I need a boom mic, better cameras and some mixing equipment to not have two separate audio recordings to deal with. And at least one other person, if only to yell cue talent!. Back to more about Mogulus. Gotta love some of the features, but I accidentally deleted the entire playlist this morning by clicking on the wrong thing. I couldn't find a way to restore it even though I know the videos were there, only the list was destroyed. Getting the Youtube videos up was easy, re-uploading the rest takes a while. I think for me, the largest potential here, besides the cute production stuff that I'm sure all these video sites will add soon, is having correspondents everywhere that you can switch to. I see Operator11 seems to do this pretty well, they'd be my second platform choice, but for now Mogulus looks really promising. I haven't had bandwidth issues here using 2Mbps or better DSL, but some people in the US on cable modems (which doesn't tell me what their speed is) have complained about it. This is so variable and there's nothing we can do about it. If anyone has gotten this far in this message, I think it worth discussing the pros and cons and I intend to start a thread about this and hope to see discussion. Re: [videoblogging] FLV Encoding...
Ah, no - maybe Perian only allows you to play FLVs in QT, not save them. I don't know because I'm lucky enough to have a full version of Flash, so I can use the video converter that comes with that... but if the option isn't there for exporting to FLV with Perian installed, then try: http://www.rivavx.com/?encoder I haven't used this, I just googled FLV encoder and this was the first thing that came up. Appears to be a free tool with full range of customisable settings - almost certainly built on FFMPEG, which is a basic open source transcoding tool. NB, use the link in the text to download just the free FLV encoder, don't click the link at bottom right which is for a free 30 day trial for the full Riva package. Glad you asked, it's useful to have found this, for telling other people who don't have full Flash Pro. Dave, I'm not certain what the difference is, either. I do know that I was confused as hell buying my c6 because I was shopping on ebay (I'm cheap, and I'm trusting) and there were different model numbers assigned for what seemed to be the exact same camera but made for different markets (For home vs. US export vs. Eurpoean export). I don't know if that's also the case here. All the technical info I got on the Xactis (including comparision videos, stills etc) came from Steve's Digicams as well as the user forums over there. Honestly, it doesn't get more thorough. Here's a forum post from a guy who has both the C6 and the CG65: http://urltea.com/xqv And here's Steve's review of the C6: http://urltea.com/xqy Unfortunately here doesn't have a review of the E1 but he does have reviews for the HD models. Hey David, ignore that last message. I think the solution is this: The CG6 is a smaller version of the C6 model I have but with a bigger screen AAC audio and can hold a bigger SD card. The reduction in slim height is traded for and increase in chubbiness, which would probably make it easier to hold. http://urltea.com/xqz The CG65 has all of the above improvements plus records in H.264 http://urltea.com/xr0 The E1 seems to be a waterproof (for up to an hour) CG65. http://urltea.com/xr1 I vote for the CG65! Re: [videoblogging] FLV Encoding...
I have a full version of flash, but it is MX, have the whole suite in fact. It's a bummer. As far as encoding at Blip, that's been my resolution 'til now. I bought a pro account and am hiding videos. [videoblogging] Personal Vlogger clips
Hello all, I'm working on a personal video blogger documentary project, and I need your help. I'm looking for short, captivating clips of personal vloggers that have grabbed your attention. They need to be short, because I'm editing a bunch of them together into a 3-minute trailer. I'm thinking 5-10 seconds each. I'd like to get about 20 of them and tie them all together. Bonus points if they are talking about vlogging in the clip. I'd be very grateful for any links you could come up with. Thanks. (P.S. [videoblogging] vlog history project
I submitted a proposal to the Association for Internet Researchers conference called A Brief History of the Video Blog. The conference is in October in Vancouver. I submitted it to a category on aesthetic/creative presentations, and it was accepted. I have submitted a zillion papers to conferences and presented them over the years, since that's something that professors at research universities do, but I've never submitted anything in a category like that, nor have I even been at many conferences where such a category existed, so I pretty much have no idea what I'm doing, though I'm having fun. In any case, the project is to cover the video blog community, as represented by the yahoo group, within the context of my own experience through: a) a Video Blog (oddly enough :); b) A short documentary; and c) A short summary presentation at the conference. Anyway, I created the first video of the proposed vlog. The post is available here: http://richardshow.org/show/2007/07/09/vlog-history-1-changed-my-life/ I am posting all these to the Richard Show under a vlog history category, so you can find all videos here: http://richardshow.org/show/category/vloghistory Also, I posted my proposal, link to the vlog, and link to a resource page I'm starting, here http://richardshow.org/show/vloghistory (I even registered vloghistory.org, that points to that page). I will include a few interviews that I did over a year ago at vloggercon, which I'm finally editing, brief snippets are included in this first video. I would also love to hear your personal vlog history in the form of a video, and would do my best to include parts of the video in my project. So, if you do make a video that discusses your own history with vlogging and/or your thoughts on vlogging history in general and/or anything you think might be related, please email me and tell me where the video is available. There may not be anywhere to go monetarily in videoblogging past the hobbyist stage. Of course, there are anomalies like Ze Frank and Ask A Ninja that receive critical acclaim and then advertising interest. On the other side of the spectrum, there are the viral video hits that make money off of revenue-sharing There are lots of videoblogs in between there, though. You may be right that the best way to go is to do whatever you want to do and express yourself through videoblogging while getting your money in other, faster, reliable ways. Initially, I used post-roll ads on my videos, but A) They were eyesores and B) I wasn't getting enought click-throughs for it to be worth anything. I would have been better off walking the streets looking down on the ground to see if anyone dropped some change! :D So I ditched the ads and immediately felt better for it because it wasn't ruining the end of my expression through video. Meanwhile, I'm noticing more and more production companies getting involved in making videos for the internet. The videos are like series of pilots, if that makes sense. :D Not like actual television shows... there's something off about them, but they're clearly using high-end equipment and putting A LOT of man-hours into their videos. The cost of each of these episodes has to be well into the thousands. We'll see what their plan is on getting their money back, or whether they're just high-end hobbyists. :D -- billcammack

Re: [videoblogging] Help: Delete pics off Xacti from Mac?
Be very careful with transferring to the Mac and then deleting files on the Xacti. I burned myself a few years ago by believing I had transferred everything to my Mac, and then doing a Delete All on the Xacti itself. I haven't used the Xacti for about a year, but if I recall correctly, I used the PictBridge function which only transferred JPEG images and not videos. When I did a Delete All on the camera it deleted photos and videos, so I lost my latest batch of videos. You may be seeing a similar issue. Are you using PictBridge (or whatever it's called)? I can't offer much help since my Xacti has died and I've forgotten the details, maybe someone more experienced with the Xacti can rephrase my warning a little more accurately. I found that by using the USB Disk option, iPhoto could be used to import photos and videos. I wish I could be more sure what the gotcha was, but please be careful. -- Sean Mike Moon wrote: Hey folks, As some of you might have read, I switched to a Mac a couple weeks back. [videoblogging] Re: Help: Delete pics off Xacti from Mac?
Hmmm...I don't have this problem. When I connect the camera via USB and choose card reader from the menu on the camera itself it opens iPhoto automatically and tell me I have X-number of items to import (it also shows up as a volume on my desktop, but I ignore it). There's a checkbox that asks if I want to delete items from camera, I always leave this checked, and then when I click import it double-checks. Do I REALLY want to delete all items from the camera? Yes, yes I do. And it does. Poof. However, this creates a different problem. There's a copy of the videos in the iphoto library, which is fine, but then have to import them into iMovie (also fine, doesn't take long) but that means I have two copies taking up space on my hard drive. Then even when I edit the clips the bits I delete are hanging around the iMovie trashcan taking up more space. There's probably a fourth copy hanging around someplace, too, just for kicks. I manually delete raw footage I don't want to keep from iMovie and I also have to delete clip-bits in iMovie that I don't use, as well as empty my iMovie trash. Since I'm not the kind of videoperson who takes oodles of raw footage and keeps it for an-as-yet-to-be-revealed purpose, this works. I only back up completed imovie projects as well as their little compressed Quicktime friends (and the rare what will I do with that? footage.) and then leave the original clips in iPhoto. This wouldn't work for people whose head would explode if they had to sift through their iPhoto library to search for clips. But I guess, this isn't all that helpful if you aren't using imovie...hmmm... [videoblogging] vPIP 1.10 released and Vlogsplosion!
This release of vPIP is available from: http://vpip.org/ and from the Show In A Box download area for integration with Wordpress: http://showinabox.tv/wordpress/download/ The major feature of this release of vPIP are the Vlogsplosion capabilities for Wordpress. Vlogsplosion originates from Rudy's custom Wordpress theme capabilities at Galacticast that he published as UFOsplode: http://tinyurl.com/rzcq2 This became very popular which Michael Verdi implemented under the name of Vlogsplosion on many sites: RyanIsHungry, Swajana, AmandaAcrossAmerica, etc. But it was still a custom implementation that had to be hand coded on each site. So, Jay Dedman asked me and Michael to get together to create a modular version that could be relatively easily implemented by anyone who understood Wordpress. This became the first feature of the Show In A box suite of vlogging tools: http://showinabox.tv/ The parts of Vlogsplosion I implemented in vPIP is the custom enclosures as text boxes entries below where you write your post (see http://tinyurl.com/33ylff ) and the ability to create unique feeds (see http://tinyurl.com/2quopf ). Look at the Vlosplosion documentation on how these features work: http://tinyurl.com/2pyolh or http://wiki.vpip.org/index.php?title=Using_Vlogsplosion There are also significant changes in vPIP that apply to all platforms, not just in Wordpress: o ThickBox works now on IE6 Safari o 640x520 flash player that scales down to any smaller size. o Flash viewer, cirneViewer*.swf, controls automatically resize to vlog dimension specified in vPIP. o Only the video size needs to be set, the control size is added on. And the main part of the documentation has moved to a wiki: http://wiki.vpip.org Since there are bound to be errors and things I don't have time to cover in detail, please contribute to the wiki if you see something to add/change. The wiki uses MediaWiki, which I've exteneded to support anchor tags (a href...) and image tags (img src...). If you have questions on how to do this, let me know, and I'll document that. Finally, there's a google group for vPIP: http://groups.google.com/group/vpip Please join there to ask questions, provide answers, request features and get announcements on vPIP. ;), Enric -===- http://vpip.org
[videoblogging] Re: Help: Delete pics off Xacti from Mac?
Yes, Tony Katz told me about this problem. Deleting the files off the Xacti drive when connected to a computer does not delete them -- they're still there (I think invisible.) You should only copy the files to your computer. Then delete them from the menu in XActi. This may apply only to the earlier versions of XActi, I have the C40. -- Enric -==- http://cirne.com --- In videoblogging@yahoogroups.com, Mike Moon [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: Hey folks, As some of you might have read, I switched to a Mac a couple weeks back. When I look at that Xacti through the Mac to the SD card in the Xacti, it is empty. But when I use the camera, all the video is still there. How do I delete (real delete, erase, gone from the memory card, poof, no more, gonzo.)videos on my Xacti USB camera, through the Mac? Thanks, Mike http://vlog.mikemoon.net
Re: [videoblogging] Re: Help: Delete pics off Xacti from Mac?
I have seen that problem when switching back and forth between a mac and a PC. The files on my Xacti's SD card seem to be gone on the Mac - but when I check the card on my PC, there are greyed-out ghost files - that take up real space. So I delete those. It doesn't happen all the time... David On 7/9/07, Enric [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: Yes, Tony Katz told me about this problem. Re: [videoblogging] FLV Encoding...
around the 9/7/07 Ron Watson mentioned about Re: [videoblogging] FLV Encoding... that: I have QT Pro, and can't seem to do FLV. Perhaps I need an upgrade. I'll check it out. try adding Perian, the open source Qt plugin. -- cheers Adrian Miles this email is bloggable [ ] ask first [ ] private [x] vogmae.net.au [official compliance stuff:] CRICOS provider code: 00122A
Re: [videoblogging] FLV Encoding...
around the 9/7/07 Ron Watson mentioned about Re: [videoblogging] FLV Encoding... that: Oh well, at least I can view my FLV files offline now. I have Movie to Wildform Flash Video - FLV and Movie to Wildform FlashVideo - SWF under the file export menu in QT. Have latest OS X, latest QT pro, have perian and Flip4Mac installed. But just tried to export to these settings and turns out I get a Flix Exporter error (not licensed to run under existing application). My university has currently broken the internet so I can't actually check just what Flix is, or was, but apparently I have or something called Flix can export to FLV, which I suspect is an old copy of Cleaner (expensive, used to be the ants pants for exporting to all formats, haven't used it for a few years as just got very fussy and clunky). So, I woz rong, perian will let youi view the flv's -- cheers Adrian Miles this email is bloggable [ ] ask first [ ] private [x] vogmae.net.au [official compliance stuff:] CRICOS provider code: 00122A
Re: [videoblogging] Help: Delete pics off Xacti from Mac?
Hey Mike, If I recall, it is recommended not to delete from computer as it does not really free up space on card. I always delete from the camera AFTER being certain that I have copied everything over. Don't trust iPhoto or other apps to grab ALL your files, I have seen it miss a few. I just use finder and drag over all the files from C5, eject and then use delete all on the camera.
