Agree with Kent, too. The advice being given here is rather consistent and clear. I wonder if the folk at Podtech realize how much free management consulting they're getting here? They seemed like they were on the vanguard of understanding small content and producers, but when push came to shove they weren't. I don't want them to fail. I want them to live up to the promises they made (both exlicit and implicit), and the way they've been handling themselves it's been a disappointment. I think part of the reason why they are failing is that they've had a big company mindset. If they just returned to their roots and focused on the needs of producers (selling ads, making money) and away from being a technology company (making yet another flash player, owning Vloggies), they might get themselves out of this mess. [videoblogging] Re: I compiled a list of PodTech's latest meltdowns
Who was the other company looking for a CEO? Meanwhile I see podtech reacted to the Techcrunch article and caused Michael to write another article about podtech, ouch: http://www.techcrunch.com/2007/07/27/dear-podtech-im-not-your-vp-marketing/ The comments are interesting. Oh dear. Come on now podtech, at this rate I will actually end up trying to offer useful advise about your image. Yes lets pretend Im PR man, what would they advise? Start controlling the news agenda, dont let it control you! You are trapped in a cycle of reacting defensively to one bad news story after another. Sieze te agenda, start making news by announcing something new and positive you are going to do, that you can actually talk about, and then deliver on. If you are still doing content, then get some more creators under contract, promote them, and perhaps sort out your branding so that all the new and exciting stuff you are going to do, is not contaminated with the snooze-fest image that a good proportion of your inhouse corporate web2.0 content seems to be labelled with. You have some interesting shows that dont really fit with the main part of your site, and they seem all tucked away and wasted. Contrast this with the strongly branded, and interlinked but seperate, channels that the likes of Next New Networks have been busy steadily launching.
