My system is 5.6, with upgrades. I installed Java 6 from the Centos
repository. It doesn't seem to have Java 7. I need the development
package. How can I install Java 7 development safely? I imagine I will
first have to uninstall Java 6.
Thanks,
John

What should I specify in the yum install command? I have CentOS 5.8,
fully updated, but it still has Java 1.6.

The server is a vpn with only 20 GB of storage. I would like to free up
disk space. Even if I must keep some i86 stuff, I think I can get rid of
the dev packages for it.

Does CentOS 5.6 have a mailing list manager like ecartis or majordomo? I
want to set up mailing lists for my server in the cloud for three
domains that I own. What mailing list managers do yourecommend, and
where can they be found? I don't ming compiling source code.

You saw my previous message about a strange error. I've tried many times
to get autotools working on CentOS. It's the only distro in which I have
had problems. How do i bring this to the attention of those who make the
decisions?

I used rhel up to a few weeks ago and had no problem with autotools. it
is definitely a CentOS issue.

John

And you've
to another distro, even Cygwin, for C
development. That is a shame, because Centos is great in other respects.

Lars Hecking found the problem. Quitge some time ago configure.ac had
been edited in Windows. This left dos line breaks. When I removed these
liblouisutdml built fine.

I've just installed CentOS 5.6. What would I get if I upgraded to 6?
Would I have to reinstall all applications or could I just restore my
/etc and /usr directories and do an update?

When I first installed my CentOS system the machine had only 1 GB. the
swap memory was set to 2 GB Now the machine has 4 GB but swap is still 2
GB. With that much memory maybe it doesn't matter, but it sure looks
odd. Is there any way to change it?

I have just installed CentOS 5.6 from disk and updated it.
1. I would like to use telnet on my local network. How do I activate it?
2. How do I install Mercurial? it is not in the repository.
3. How do I install eclipse? It is also not in the repository.
Thanks,

I got Eclipse. I have some older devices that won't work with ssh. Maybe
I'll try upgrading their firmware, but meanwhile, I do need to use them.

I have a RHEL system and I'm thinking of changing to CentOW. How can
this be done most easily. It is important that the e-mail setup not be
disturbed, since it was crafted to work with an IP that requires
