Bug#389007: Regression: Radeon 9200 powers off Apple Cinema Display

That's not minimal - does commenting out Option MacModel or changing
its value to mini-internal help?

Bug#451989: Further news on 451989

2008-01-02 Thread Anthony Campbell
Following the recent upgrade of xserver-xorg I tried upgrading
xserver-xorg-core again. The problem with ctrl-alt-esc in Icewm has gone
away but there is a new bug. Crtl-alt-del no longer closes X though I
can do so via the popup panel in Icewm.

I have reverted to the backported version of xserver-xorg-core.

 Hello,

when I run the starwars hack from xscreensaver, Xorg freezes. The rest of
the system is working, however, the console is locked forever. I was able
to login remotely, but gdb Xorg crashed and killing X had no effect, even
did not kill X. top showed X is eating 100% of the CPU, and that almost
all of it is spent in the kernel.

Sounds like a GPU lockup. It's most likely an issue in the Mesa driver
in libgl1-mesa-dri. Please provide the full Xorg.0.log.

Indeed, and I guess I could also be considered a Debian user. :)

That said, I haven't tried the default setup in a while, but I can't
imagine how the architecture would matter for it.

As for the missing decorations, has it been confirmed that all compiz
packages including libdecoration0 are the same version, that
gtk-window-decorator is running and the decoration plugin is loaded? If
so, does running

gtk-window-decorator --replace

manually give any hints for the problem?

Bug#458692: Starts X regardless of whether keyboard is correctly setup

2008-01-02 Thread Simon Huggins
Package: xinit
Version: 1.0.7-1
Severity: normal

When running startx with a full /var I discovered ALT didn't work. I
initially thought this was some higher level package like gtk or xfce that
was causing the problem but in fact it was X and specifically startx which
keeps going when xkbcomp fails.

I get a log like (copied by hand because /var was full):
The XKEYBOARD keymap compiler (xkbcomp) reports:
 Error: bad length in CompatMap
  Output file /var/tmp/server-0.xkm removed
Errors from xkbcomp are not fatal to the X server

If I make some space on /var then everything works again.

I would have thought it was preferable to stop X from starting in such
situations or at least to make the error more obvious.

Bug#458432: xterm does not display Unicode glyphs beyond \uFFFF

The oldest known script is sumerian cuneiform.
I searched for free fonts and found George Douros fonts
which were included in Debian after an wnpp.

Fortunately the fonts use Unicode encoding
which I prefer since I studied in Japan.
 According to wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Unicode_cuneiform)
sumerian cuneiform are included since Unicode 5.0.

but TrueType fonts use a different interface, which apparently
does not have the same limitation (that's how xfd is able to display
  the font).

Is it possibe to use this functionality in xterm?

That's what you're using if you type

xterm -fa Akkadian

bitmap fonts use a different (-fn) option. However, xterm is translating
all of the above-0x values to the replacement character as it reads
them. To change this, I'll have to undo that - but replace the check
with several other changes in the program to make bitmap fonts still work.
(I didn't do that this week since I was closing out changes for #230).

Bug#444183: xserver-xorg-input-mouse: Vertical scrolling doesn't work anymore

Subject: Re: Bug#444183: xserver-xorg-input-mouse: Vertical scrolling doesn't

Followup-For: Bug #444183
Package: xserver-xorg-input-mouse
Version: 1:1.2.3-2

*** Please type your report below this line ***

A happy new year to everyone,

I had configured my mouse using the evdev driver. After an upgrade (some
lines from /var/log/aptitude

[AKTUALISIERUNG] xserver-xorg-input-evdev 1:1.1.5-3 - 1:1.2.0-1
[AKTUALISIERUNG] xserver-xorg-input-kbd 1:1.2.0-1+1.2.1 - 1:1.2.2-3
[AKTUALISIERUNG] xserver-xorg-input-mouse 1:1.2.1-1 - 1:1.2.3-2 )

the mouse did not move, so I switched back to the mouse driver, which
worked before I switched to evdev probably a year back. Now the mouse is
working again but the scrolling is not. xev is reporting ButtonPress
events

ButtonPress event, serial 30, synthetic NO, window 0x201,
root 0x45, subw 0x0, time 23466740, (79,65), root:(650,578),

root 0x45, subw 0x0, time 23467995, (79,65), root:(650,578),
state 0x10, button 6, same_screen YES

but it is not working neither in openbox nor GNOME.

I noticed, in the logs is written

(**) Option Buttons 7
(**) Option Emulate3Buttons true
(**) Configured Mouse: Emulate3Buttons, Emulate3Timeout: 50
(**) Option ZAxisMapping 6 7
(**) Configured Mouse: ZAxisMapping: buttons 6 and 7
(**) Configured Mouse: Buttons: 11
(**) Configured Mouse: Sensitivity: 1
(**) Option CorePointer

So in xorg.conf 7 buttons are configured, but the logs then set it to
11. I do not know why, but maybe it is on purpose.

I could not test 1.2.2-1

Bug#458415: xserver-xorg-video-ati: wrong VGA load detection on Xpress 200M confuses the window manager

2008-01-02 Thread Tim Retout
On Wed, 2008-01-02 at 11:41 +0100, Brice Goglin wrote:
No, Tim has a real bug caused by the VGA output not being correctly
detected. It confuses the window manager by saying that the screen is
1152x864 while it is actually smaller. I am retitling the bug accordingly.

Running `dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg' resulted in a much smaller
xorg.conf, and the problem went away. It also went away when removing
the VertSync option, because the VGA-0 output then supported a 1024x768
resolution.

The VGA output is still there, but it causes no harm. I suspect that the
problematic patch might actually have the benefit of enabling VGA output
on my laptop by default, so 1024x768 projectors will now just work.

My xorg.conf is managed by dexconf; perhaps trigger a reconfigure of
xorg.conf on upgrade of the ati driver...? But then, a lot of people
have the ati driver installed but use a different one.

So perhaps the only safe solution is to actually detect when VGA devices
are attached.

Bug#442892: xserver-xorg: This bug is still around

2008-01-02 Thread Mike Hommey
Followup-For: Bug #442892
Package: xserver-xorg
Version: 1:7.3+9

FWIW, I got the same thing again when installing a brand new debian system,
first installing the base system, then xserver-xorg with
APT::Install-Recommends set to false.

This sadly results in an empty xorg.conf, which makes the system
unuseable, while having no xorg.conf file at all works in most cases.

Mike
