12d1:1506 is a usb id for E3531s after it has been mode switched so
usb_modeswitch has done what it should do.
I think your problem is either linux driver related or NetworkManager related

And I have the same issue on my Toshiba C650D w/ 3 GB and AMD Radeon
6350. Being that it is an older laptop and has only 3 GB memory, I have
to either restart or kill and restart Xorg many times a day. Terrible,
and soon to be a deal breaker for Xubuntu if a fix is not released very
soon.

I agree that this bug should be a higher priority. I have a cluster
built on Quad CPU SuperMicro H8QME2 motherboards with hex-core Opteron
CPUs . With 12.04LTS, the motherboard ATI graphics worked fine as the
machines are BOINC number crunchers. The motherboards also have NVIDIA
Telsa GPU
Updating to the latest Intel drivers from [1] appears to have solved the
problem.

After much messing around I have discovered that this is actually a Xorg
bug (Bug #1314787 ).
However, the issue is greatly exacerbated by the Network-manager-gnome
0.9.8.8-0ubuntu4.3 update. Prior to the update, the issue was not
salient. After the update Xorg runs the system out of memory

Mic switching between the ports seems to work fine, but when both
devices are plugged into the dock a distorted representation of what is

What you see there sounds like the fake CD drive that 3G/4G sticks tend
to behave like until usb-modeswitch puts them into proper modem mode.
That CD drive usually has windows drivers, so it's totally useless and
unnessary under Ubuntu.

(Ubuntu Gnome, 14.04), and that made the trackpad buttons normal -- and gave me
middle click to scroll! Yay!
