Actually, no. The KAT500 does not communicate with the KPA500, only the K3. In
RADIO=K3 (on the KPA) changing bands on the KPA500 causes the KPA to send a
special Auxbus message to the K3. The KAT500 cannot receive this message. The
K3 does a band change, then sends data using normal Auxbus

And that is exactly why the band buttons are a PITA - If pressed they would
ensure that my KPA500 is NOT on the same band as my transmitter.
OTOH, if you change Radio type from K3 to BCD, and have set the K3
menu *CONFIG:PWR-SET
*to *PER-BAND*, the K3 will no longer be able to recognize when a KPA500 or
KPA1500 is switched from STBY to OPER, so there will effectively be just
one fixed drive power setting stored per band, instead of two

It's not clear why this feature of the KPA500 is a "PITA," since the
majority of users want the rig and the amp. to always be locked to the same
band. However, I suppose it could be a problem in a station where antenna
switching is all manual rather than automatic.
In that case, one can change

I'd still prefer the Mackie Mix5. Same price, 1-day free shipping... more
features, and it's just a mixer, not an interface. And it has a metal chassis.

If it’s something a lineman can fix, that’s easy and you’re home free. In my
case the problems were usually either old style insulators, or just an ancient
pole that needs to be rebuilt. That requires at least a 2-man crew so work
needs to be scheduled. Getting on the schedule can drag out.
Search “bluetooth mixer” on Amazon - there are several possibilities depending
on the specific details of your application.
One such example:

“Just be glad all you guys checking power lines don't live in CA with PG”
It took me several years to finally crack the bureaucracy at PG The closer
you get to the repair techs/linemen, the better it gets. Usually one or two
PUC complaints will get you in contact with the local “noise” guy,
Thanks, Jim; I appreciate your support. :)

Hello,

Does your K1 or K2 need repair? Tuneup?

Probably more RFI will come from neighboring homes but it's easy to
check with a receiver before installing your tower. If there is noise
from faulty power line hardware the power company will fix it.

I recall reading on the RFI reflector that HV transmission lines are
rarely a problem, or at least not for long, because power companies lose
real money when power leaked, so they had a strong incentive to repair
problems as soon as possible.
