When I first started listing items on QRZ, I was told by a handful of guys
to always put this in my listings.
I asked why,and was told that it happens too frequently.
I started to add the parts swappers line to my listings.
I have not had any issues, other than one buyer who
was a real pain.
Which bands do you use it on? And how high is the antenna? Flat or
Inverted-V?
If you provide that info, it will be interesting to run a simulation on
it to see what the losses are and where.

Some rigs are sold as "Tech Special". The ad indicates there is a
problem with the rig, but is not specific about that problem, and states
you will have to fix it. Now you can't return if it does not work, you
knew you were buying a dead rig...
What the ad does not say, is the magnitude of
Remember that you are not matching the impedance of the ladder line, but
more so, matching the impedance of the antenna. The reason for ladder
line is the low loss property even with high SWR on the line. A good
quality 1:1 balun is preferred. See https://www.dj0ip.de/balun-stuff/

I have the same policy as Dave. I don’t buy from folks who use this ploy.

I did check just before I sent my note. The new K-Pod F/W works the same as
1.09. At each setting in the K3S (was the same as the K3 I had before), the
K-Pod tuning rate is one-half of that in the radio.
I bought the K3 in 2009 and the K3S in 2017, and that never changed.

Hi,
Sorry to be ignorant, but what exactly is a "parts swapper"?

Check again, because that does not match my experience if your K-POD
firmware is at 1.09 (can't test now, sold both K3s). If CONFIG:VFO CTS is
set to 100 (or 200?),
My K-Pod tune at half the rate of the K3S at all three VFO CTS settings.
If Elecraft could do it, I'd like for the K3/K3S F/W to provide the option for
the K-Pod to tune at the same rate.

Yes the antenna will be very high impedance. As suggested, connect an
additional pair of wires for 40 meters to the same feed point of the
dipole, if possible put them at right angles to the existing dipole.

I always get a phone number and talk to the person directly. If they won’t
supply a phone number I pass.
If you use PayPal DON’T use “Friends and Family” you will have no protection.
If you need to add 3% to cover the fees no big deal.
I always insist on the ability to return the item.

In the K3, if you change *CONFIG:VFO CTS*, the VFO frequency moves faster
at 400 than at 100 (counts per turn), but the K-POD always tunes at 100 or
200 counts per turn (can't remember which). The K-POD ignores the VFO CTS
setting on a K3.
In the K4, the equivalent setting is *MENU:VFO Counts
I have a new Q5Signal 432 100w transverter all hooked up, did all the

It has happened to me - not on a K3 but on a power supply. I sold a perfectly

Before I sold it, I added 3 new MOV's as per an article on repeater-builder.
They were a certain color and size and

Maybe the rates I have my K3 configured for just happen to match the

Personally, I think it's a fallacy that hams are any more fundamentally

Maybe some people do this, but I have never had it happen to me, and I
buy/sell on QTH, and QRZ. I suspect people looking for a good excuse to
not offer returns, no matter what.
Personally, I won't purchase from a person claiming parts swappers are a
problem. Why? It gives them an excuse
I made my own gadget like that. Except that it also has a little cable
coming around to the key jack on the left side, and I have TWO jacks for

If it is a real thing, I would have tripped over it by now.
However, if you are selling an FT101ZD with 6146B tubes in it, that might
be a different story.

My personal opinion is that it's not a real thing (at least not as enough
volume to matter). If it really bothers you, get some of those void
warranty stickers so you know if the radio has been opened.

Tony: I think it’s just an excuse that some hams use for saying they won’t

found the vast majority of hams to be honest. I have dealt with
