and ran ./configure with an option to install it in another
directory than the current Qt. Started the dependent program with a
script which set the $QTDIR to the /path/to/older/Qt and that
did the trick. You may consider a similar approach.

The most important lesson I learned was to ignore any advice ever to change
font names with caps in them to small letter names.
