Welcome to GnuCash.
The transaction description is on the top line with the date.
Each split line also has a memo field. This is what you see in transaction
journal mode.
There is also a note field, which is visible in double line mode.

customer currency. If its wrong you will need to change it and then edit

This is only an issue on the Mac.. Gnucash on the Mac does not handle the
open signal. Part of the problem is that it is an asynchronous signal so
gnucash would have to handle it at any time. It could arrive too early or
too late in the startup sequence..
All other platforms handle double
Are you running F::Q 1.47? Did you get an alphavantage key? Did you change
your quote source to alphavantage?

he box with authors, copying,
etc. I click on Gnucash and I get the tip of the day, then a box pops up in
the left corner saying that the file/URI/ etc could not be found.
I must be taking the wrong path.

you used was a backup file named smith
Gin.gnucash.20180307145203.gnucash. From within GnuCash you should use
the File -> Open menu item to re-select your data file.

indent scheme, and it knows how to indent HTML -- so it should be able to
be taught how to indent a merging of the two.
