in kppp .. modem query ttyS0 shows

tried this scenario, didn't help me. Also
tried using the ltmodem module designed for lucent modems, still doesn't
work.
Its a Compaq VSC 56k designed by Lucent for
Compaq. If it is a winmodem type, and i don't think it is, it had no
problems with the redhat 5.1 distribution.

in windows modem is set to com 2 irq 3 same as ttyS1 with mandrake but modem
doesn't respond to kppp query or to init on connect.
any ideas on how to properly setup the modem.
its not a winmodem, and it did work with rh linux 5.1
