[Bug 1728045] Re: Please restore battery time remaining to top bar!

2017-10-29 Thread Daniel van Vugt
It might be a design choice though, to keep the panel bar "clean".

I believe you can still see estimated battery time remaining if you
click on the panel menu (top right?).

[Bug 1728393] [NEW] python-pandas 0.17.1-3ubuntu2 bug in functionality

2017-10-29 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

The .apply() function does not work for resample function in this release.
Here a code sample to reproduce the error:
 Code
import numpy as np
import pandas as pd
from pandas.io import sql

rng = pd.date_range('1/1/2011', periods=72, freq='30s')
df2 = pd.DataFrame(np.random.randn(72),index=rng)
x=df2.resample('60s',closed='right',convention='start')#.apply(np.median)
print x.shape
y=df2.resample('60s',closed='right',convention='start',how='median')
print y.shape
z=df2.resample('60s',closed='right',convention='start').apply(np.median)
print z.shape
print z

print('stop')
 Output
(37, 1)
(37, 1)
(1,)
The function how='median' is deprecate and .apply(np.median)should be used. But
the result array when using the apply function always consists only of one
line, when running on Ubuntu Mate (16.04 LTS).
On other systems the usage of how=xxx and .apply(xxx) is equivalent.

[Bug 1727356] Re: Wayland does not start up on "Integrated Graphics Chipset: Intel(R) G33": Shader compilation failed

2017-10-29 Thread Daniel van Vugt
As the G33 graphics chipset is 10 years old it will be difficult for
developers to find hardware to test on. And unlikely very many users
will encounter the problem.

We definitely want to fix this, but calling it High importance is
probably not accurate.

[Bug 1714989] Re: gnome-shell crashed with SIGSEGV in g_type_check_instance_cast() from st_label_set_text() from ffi_call_unix64() [Global App Menu specific?]

2017-10-29 Thread Daniel Playfair Cal
I also experience this crash. I don't have global app menu installed but
for me the crash occurs when the following line of code is being
executed in the Freon shell extension: https://github.com/UshakovVasilii
/gnome-shell-extension-
freon/blob/f9756b2430b3766c3d21d71e9928963032617bf7/freon%40UshakovVasilii_Github.yahoo.com/extension.js#L360

I've attached a valgrind log of the crash occurring. There is a whole
lot of seemingly related bad memory access before the crash occurs.

For me it happens sometimes immediately after logging in, but before the
shell successfully loads. I assume it only happens if the Freon
extension is installed. I'm on version 29 of the freon shell extension.

[Bug 1726279] Re: Stellarium performance regression (visibly stuttering)

2017-10-29 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Here it is. Not much to see.

** Attachment added: "log.txt"

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/stellarium/+bug/1726279/+attachment/4999829/+files/log.txt

** Description changed:

I have two identical Xeon desktops with identical monitors. They are
  running different software:

- Ubuntu 16.04: stellarium 0.14.3-1
- Ubuntu 17.10: stellarium 0.16.0-1
+ Ubuntu 16.04: stellarium 0.14.3-1 --> smooth
+ Ubuntu 17.10: stellarium 0.16.0-1 --> stutters

On both machines when I drag the sky the counter at the bottom of the
screen shows 59-60 FPS. However on the latter machine the picture
stutters visibly (like it's really 30FPS/20FPS/15FPS).

It doesn't seem to matter whether I use Xorg or Wayland, Gnome Shell or
Unity7. The stuttery result is the same. I've tried other OpenGL apps
and none of them seem to have this problem. Only Stellarium 0.16.0.

[Bug 1581160] Re: Switch to Noto Sans as default font for Japanese and/or Korean?

2017-10-29 Thread Seong-ho Cho
umm ... yes, This is one of Korean user, and my opinion is, we need more
time to discuss about this issue, and, we would better to think this
issue as language specific, separately, solution of this issue should
not be handled together with problem on Chinese and Japanese. China,
Japan and Korea shares unicode area for the CJK ideographic character,
but this is little bit one part of their own character code set. so I
think that many Chinese users and Japanese users also agree on this my
opinion. They have 'needs' for their own.

we, Korean users want to change to another font face from Nanum font,
this font is being on almost 6 to 7 years, but we did not found that
what font face looks more elegant and clear than Noto sans. some of
person is not satisfied to Noto sans' shape, but, we do not have idea
for any alternative one to change.

You can refer this discussion(in Korean), which says that, we already
selected Noto sans as a default font on the Debian distribution. we
tried to find another one, but we did not. therefore, It's OK to change
to Noto sans as "default Korean font", If you just want to follow Debian
distribution's policy.

have to display this information themselves. So that's also an

Issue appears to have been resolved for both of current Fedora 24 and Fedora 25
with the standard setup of GDM (running on top of Wayland). I have checked for
Fedora 24 running inside a virtual machine:
- window geometry is shown when choosing GNOME on Xorg session.
- window geometry is not shown GNOME (on Wayland) session.
For Fedora 25, the issue is gone both when running on bare metal and inside a
virtual machine.

[Bug 1728421] Re: Update gtk+3.0 to 3.22.25

2017-10-29 Thread Jeremy Bicha
** Description changed:

  Impact
  ==
  There is a new gtk3 release, 3.22.25.

  Highlights
  --
  * Allows dropping these cherry-picked patches:
    - 0001-Adwaita-Fix-typo-.backgrounf-.background.patch
    - 0002-theme-Fix-Adwaita-headerbars.patch
   - 0003-display-x11-Unset-tiled-state-if-_GTK_EDGE_CONSTRAIN.patch
  * Fixes crash with GNOME Online Accounts (LP: #1720400)
+ * Fixes menu forwarding over SSH (LP: #1700319)
+ * Fixes log spam about cursor when running gnome-terminal on Wayland (LP:
#1681910)
  * Support KDE SSD (server-side decorations) handling on Wayland
  * Restores middle-click to do the opposite of primary (usually left-) click
in scrollbars, GTKRange
  * Some theme fixes for the gtk3 High Contrast theme
  * Allow more key buttons in the GNOME Settings > Keyboard panel to be
translatable
  * A fix to not show duplicate printers in some cases
  * Improves the GNOME 3.26 tiling feature for GNOME Terminal

For more changes since 3.22.24, see
  https://git.gnome.org/browse/gtk+/log?h=gtk-3-22
  https://git.gnome.org/browse/gtk+/tree/NEWS?h=gtk-3-22

  Test Case
  =
Install the update. Run a variety of apps in the default Ubuntu install with
the Ambiance theme.

Also check that the Adwaita and High Contrast themes still look ok. You can
change the theme with the GNOME Tweaks app (gnome-tweak-tool). For the window
buttons to look as designed, you should change the icon theme to Adwaita when
you set the theme to Adwaita or High Contrast. Afterwards, you can reset your
theme back to the defaults with
  gsettings reset org.gnome.desktop.interface gtk-theme
  gsettings reset org.gnome.desktop.interface icon-theme

  Regression Potential

Quite a few changes, but mostly it's bug fixes.

Earlier gtk3 releases had some regressions (that's why we had those
cherry-picked patches), but that was mostly related to the late GNOME
3.26 tiling feature that was rushed in. This release does not have any
  major new features like that.

Unfortunately, very few people run gtk3 from git master so regressions
often aren't seen until distros start shipping the gtk3 update.

The GNOME stack has an SRU Micro-release exception
  https://wiki.ubuntu.com/StableReleaseUpdates#GNOME

We haven't done micro-release SRUs for gtk3.22 yet. This might be a good
trial run to see how well it works before 18.04 LTS. Fedora does keep
their gtk3 up to date throughout the life of their releases.

[Bug 1728489] [NEW] tar -x sometimes fails on overlayfs

2017-10-29 Thread Daniel Axtens
Public bug reported:

[SRU Justification]

[Impact]
A user is seeing failures from extracting tar archives on overlay filesystems
on the 4.4 kernel in constrained environments. The error presents as:

`tar: ./deps/0/bin: Directory renamed before its status could be
extracted`

Following this thread (http://www.spinics.net/lists/linux-
unionfs/msg00856.html), it appears that this occurs when entries in the
kernel's inode cache are reclaimed, and subsequent lookups return new
inode numbers.

Further testing showed that when setting
`/proc/sys/vm/vfs_cache_pressure` to 0 (don't allow the kernel to
reclaim inode cache entries due to memory pressure) the error does not
recur, supporting the hypothesis that cache entries are being evicted.
However, this setting may lead to a kernel OOM so is not a reasonable
workaround even temporarily.

The error cannot be reproduced on a 4.13 kernel, due to the series at
https://www.spinics.net/lists/linux-fsdevel/msg110235.html. The
particular relevant commit is b7a807dc2010334e62e0afd89d6f7a8913eb14ff,
which needs a couple of dependencies.

[Fix]
For Zesty, backport the entire series.
For Xenial, where a full backport is not feasible, backport the key commit and
the short list of dependencies.

[Testcase]

# Testing this bug

The testcase for this particular bug is simple - create an overlay
filesystem with all layers on the same underlying file system, and then
see if the inode of a directory is constant across dropping the caches:

mkdir -p /upper/upper /upper/work /lower
mount -t overlay none /mnt -o
lowerdir=/lower,upperdir=/upper/upper,workdir=/upper/work
cd /mnt
mkdir a
stat a # observe inode number
echo 2 > /proc/sys/vm/drop_caches
stat a # compare inode number

If the inode number is the same, the fix is successful.

# Regression testing

I have run the unionmount test suite from
http://git.infradead.org/users/dhowells/unionmount-testsuite.git in
overlay mode (./run --ov), and verified that it still passes.

(The series cover letter mentions a fork of the test suite at
https://github.com/amir73il/unionmount-testsuite/commits/overlayfs-
devel. I have *not* attempted to get this running: it assumes a range of
changes that are not present in our kernels.)

[Regression Potential]
As this changes overlayfs, there is potential for regression in the form of
unexpected breakages to overlaysfs behaviour.

I think this is adequately addressed by the regression testing.

One option to reduce the regression potential on Zesty is to reduce the
set of patches applied - rather than including the whole series we could
include just the patches to solve this bug, which are much easier to
inspect for correctness.

[Bug 1728313] Re: integrated intel GPU doesn't work with wayland on ubuntu 17.10

2017-10-29 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Thanks, that's a nicely detailed bug report.

The first issue you identified is just that your Intel GPU is too new
for Linux kernel 4.13 so you need to set alpha_support=1. This will be
fixed in Linux kernel 4.15 (coming in Ubuntu 18.04).

The second issue you describe is bug 1724732. So let's keep this bug

[Bug 1727210] Re: Totem locks up with 17.10 on AMD® E1-6010 apu with amd radeon r2 graphics × 2 (Lenovo)

2017-10-29 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Ernest, thanks for your testing. Two more questions:

(1) When you log into "Ubuntu on Xorg", can you please run this and send
us the output?

  xrandr

Then verify again that totem doesn't work in that session.

(2) Does the situation improve after you do this?;

  sudo apt remove mesa-va-drivers

Of course we have a duty to each other, but we would be overstepping
our boundaries to control the actions of other people by coercion of
violence as we do now. if you want to help someone, educate them,
express your feelings and concerns to them, and if that does not work
then there isn't much you can do. It's their body, their decision.

[Bug 1726279] Re: Stellarium performance regression (visibly stuttering)

2017-10-29 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Well, I've been doing GL development on these machines [1] for a few
years. I know what they're capable of and that 60Hz should appear smooth
and not stuttering. Not to mention the identical machine next to it
running Stellarium 0.14 is perfectly smooth still...

Which log files exactly would you like?

[Bug 1723857] Re: onscreen keyboard appears whenever i touch touchscreen

*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1721315 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1721315

All, you're not helping the situation by unmarking this as a duplicate.

The first report was bug 1721315. The correct developer was assigned to
bug 1721315. And the correct upstream bug link was assigned to bug
1721315. And bug 1721315 is the only one correctly formatted already in
such a way that a fix can be backported to 17.10 (SRU).

I've duplicated the upstream link in here now, but I think this bug
should be closed as a duplicate of bug 1721315.

I'm not sure this is a bug. In Ubuntu 17.10 the login screen is ALWAYS
running on VT #1, which you will reach with Ctrl+Alt+F1. That does not
mean it's closed anything though. Try Ctrl+Alt+F2 to get back to your
session (running on VT #2) with the programs still running.

[Bug 1728474] [NEW] ctrl-alt-f1 closes all running programs

2017-10-29 Thread themusicgod1
Public bug reported:

Since upgrading to Ubuntu 17.10 artful when I go to tty via alt-ctrl-f1,
I am presented with a gdm3 login screen. This in and of itself is OK,
as long as it's a lock screen. But it's not - all of my running
programs were closed(most of them without saving).

This makes the desktop behave similar to a phone, so I could see this as
being a potential feature to some...but for those of us running servers
and all kinds of programs, with 1000s of tabs open...it's kind of an
abrupt surprise to enable by default

end result

actual behaviour:
alt-ctrl-f1 logs out & closes all running applications

desired behaviour:
alt-ctrl-f1 either does nothing (if you are on tty 1) or locks the screen, does
not close all running applications.

It will not work in either "Ubuntu" or "Ubuntu on Xorg" but will work
when I load with Unity. That will have to be my back up until the bug
is figured out.

[Bug 1728467] [NEW] All files on ntfs partitions are marked executable

2017-10-29 Thread Doug McMahon
Public bug reported:

This did not happen in 14.04 but somewhere since then udisks2 sets any & all
files on ntfs partitions as executable.
Additionally if file is copied over to user's ext4 partion the bit remains set.
Can't see why this would be intentional??

In 14.04 udisks2 -
:static const gchar *ntfs_defaults[] = { "uid=", "gid=", "dmask=0077",
"fmask=0177", NULL };

In 16.04, 17.04, 17.10,18.04 udisks2 -
:static const gchar *ntfs_defaults[] = { "uid=", "gid=", NULL };

[Bug 1728466] [NEW] Please remove diet (removed from Debian)

2017-10-29 Thread Jeremy Bicha
Public bug reported:

diet fails to build on bionic (build-depends on removed latex-xcolor)

important enough to maintain in Ubuntu after it was removed from Debian.

[Bug 1728465] [NEW] Mouse pointer disappears on client in 17.10

2017-10-29 Thread Tudor Holton
Public bug reported:

When using synergy as a client on Ubuntu 17.10, the mouse disappears
whenever it enters the screen.

This bug has been reported in public Symless forums, also here:
https://symless.com/forums/topic/4393-no-mouse-and-keyboard-input-on-
ubuntu-1710-client/

If the display manager is changed to "Ubuntu" then the mouse pointer does not
show.
If the display manager is changed to "Ubuntu on xorg" then the mouse pointer is
displayed.

In both cases, the mouse actually works, it just isn't shown in the
default setting.

There are other bugs in "Ubuntu on xorg" that make this not an ideal
solution.

This bug seems to be fixed in Xenial proposed package. My system
reported about saned crashes (caused by assertion failure described in
this bug) on every boot. Then I installed updated package and I do not
observe any sane related crashes anymore.
