There is a whole lot of seemingly related bad memory access before the crash occurs. For me it happens sometimes immediately after logging in, but before the shell successfully loads. [Bug 1581160] Re: Switch to Noto Sans as default font for Japanese and/or Korean?
umm ... yes, This is one of Korean user, and my opinion is, we need more time to discuss about this issue, and, we would better to think this issue as language specific, separately, solution of this issue should not be handled together with problem on Chinese and Japanese. China, Japan and Korea shares unicode area for the CJK ideographic character, but this is little bit one part of their own character code set. so I think that many Chinese users and Japanese users also agree on this my opinion. They have 'needs' for their own. we, Korean users want to change to another font face from Nanum font, this font is being on almost 6 to 7 years, but we did not found that what font face looks more elegant and clear than Noto sans. some of person is not satisfied to Noto sans' shape, but, we do not have idea for any alternative one to change. You can refer this discussion(in Korean), which says that, we already selected Noto sans as a default font on the Debian distribution. we tried to find another one, but we did not. therefore, It's OK to change to Noto sans as "default Korean font", If you just want to follow Debian distribution's policy. https://groups.google.com/forum/?utm_medium=email_source=footer#!msg /oss-desktop-korean/Sr8aEUK_Y6k/FkOSqc_GDgAJ -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1581160 Title: Switch to Noto Sans as default font for Japanese and/or Korean? I'd love to help troubleshoot this so we can get it fixed. Please let me know what information is needed. [Bug 1728421] Re: Update gtk+3.0 to 3.22.25
** Description changed: Impact == There is a new gtk3 release, 3.22.25. Highlights -- * Allows dropping these cherry-picked patches: - 0001-Adwaita-Fix-typo-.backgrounf-.background.patch - 0002-theme-Fix-Adwaita-headerbars.patch - 0003-display-x11-Unset-tiled-state-if-_GTK_EDGE_CONSTRAIN.patch * Fixes crash with GNOME Online Accounts (LP: #1720400) + * Fixes menu forwarding over SSH (LP: #1700319) + * Fixes log spam about cursor when running gnome-terminal on Wayland (LP: #1681910) * Support KDE SSD (server-side decorations) handling on Wayland * Restores middle-click to do the opposite of primary (usually left-) click in scrollbars, GTKRange * Some theme fixes for the gtk3 High Contrast theme * Allow more key buttons in the GNOME Settings > Keyboard panel to be translatable * A fix to not show duplicate printers in some cases * Improves the GNOME 3.26 tiling feature for GNOME Terminal For more changes since 3.22.24, see https://git.gnome.org/browse/gtk+/log?h=gtk-3-22 https://git.gnome.org/browse/gtk+/tree/NEWS?h=gtk-3-22 Test Case = Install the update. Run a variety of apps in the default Ubuntu install with the Ambiance theme. Also check that the Adwaita and High Contrast themes still look ok. You can change the theme with the GNOME Tweaks app (gnome-tweak-tool). For the window buttons to look as designed, you should change the icon theme to Adwaita when you set the theme to Adwaita or High Contrast. Afterwards, you can reset your theme back to the defaults with gsettings reset org.gnome.desktop.interface gtk-theme gsettings reset org.gnome.desktop.interface icon-theme Regression Potential Quite a few changes, but mostly it's bug fixes. Earlier gtk3 releases had some regressions (that's why we had those cherry-picked patches), but that was mostly related to the late GNOME 3.26 tiling feature that was rushed in. This release does not have any major new features like that. Unfortunately, very few people run gtk3 from git master so regressions often aren't seen until distros start shipping the gtk3 update. The GNOME stack has an SRU Micro-release exception https://wiki.ubuntu.com/StableReleaseUpdates#GNOME We haven't done micro-release SRUs for gtk3.22 yet. This might be a good trial run to see how well it works before 18.04 LTS. Fedora does keep their gtk3 up to date throughout the life of their releases. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1728421 Title: Update gtk+3.0 to 3.22.25 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gtk+3.0/+bug/1728421/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1728489] [NEW] tar -x sometimes fails on overlayfs
Public bug reported: [SRU Justification] [Impact] A user is seeing failures from extracting tar archives on overlay filesystems on the 4.4 kernel in constrained environments. The error presents as: `tar: ./deps/0/bin: Directory renamed before its status could be extracted` Following this thread (http://www.spinics.net/lists/linux- unionfs/msg00856.html), it appears that this occurs when entries in the kernel's inode cache are reclaimed, and subsequent lookups return new inode numbers. Further testing showed that when setting `/proc/sys/vm/vfs_cache_pressure` to 0 (don't allow the kernel to reclaim inode cache entries due to memory pressure) the error does not recur, supporting the hypothesis that cache entries are being evicted. However, this setting may lead to a kernel OOM so is not a reasonable workaround even temporarily. The error cannot be reproduced on a 4.13 kernel, due to the series at https://www.spinics.net/lists/linux-fsdevel/msg110235.html. The particular relevant commit is b7a807dc2010334e62e0afd89d6f7a8913eb14ff, which needs a couple of dependencies. [Fix] For Zesty, backport the entire series. For Xenial, where a full backport is not feasible, backport the key commit and the short list of dependencies. [Testcase] # Testing this bug The testcase for this particular bug is simple - create an overlay filesystem with all layers on the same underlying file system, and then see if the inode of a directory is constant across dropping the caches: mkdir -p /upper/upper /upper/work /lower mount -t overlay none /mnt -o lowerdir=/lower,upperdir=/upper/upper,workdir=/upper/work cd /mnt mkdir a stat a # observe inode number echo 2 > /proc/sys/vm/drop_caches stat a # compare inode number If the inode number is the same, the fix is successful. # Regression testing I have run the unionmount test suite from http://git.infradead.org/users/dhowells/unionmount-testsuite.git in overlay mode (./run --ov), and verified that it still passes. (The series cover letter mentions a fork of the test suite at https://github.com/amir73il/unionmount-testsuite/commits/overlayfs- devel. I have *not* attempted to get this running: it assumes a range of changes that are not present in our kernels.) [Regression Potential] As this changes overlayfs, there is potential for regression in the form of unexpected breakages to overlaysfs behaviour. I think this is adequately addressed by the regression testing. One option to reduce the regression potential on Zesty is to reduce the set of patches applied - rather than including the whole series we could include just the patches to solve this bug, which are much easier to inspect for correctness. ** Affects: linux (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Assignee: Daniel Axtens (daxtens) Status: Confirmed -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1728489 Title: tar -x sometimes fails on overlayfs To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1728489/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1728313] Re: integrated intel GPU doesn't work with wayland on ubuntu 17.10
Thanks, that's a nicely detailed bug report. The first issue you identified is just that your Intel GPU is too new for Linux kernel 4.13 so you need to set alpha_support=1. [Bug 1728474] [NEW] ctrl-alt-f1 closes all running programs
Public bug reported: Since upgrading to Ubuntu 17.10 artful when I go to tty via alt-ctrl-f1, I am presented with a gdm3 login screen. This in and of itself is OK, as long as it's a lock screen. But it's not - all of my running programs were closed(most of them without saving). This makes the desktop behave similar to a phone, so I could see this as being a potential feature to some...but for those of us running servers and all kinds of programs, with 1000s of tabs open...it's kind of an abrupt surprise to enable by default end result actual behaviour: alt-ctrl-f1 logs out & closes all running applications desired behaviour: alt-ctrl-f1 either does nothing (if you are on tty 1) or locks the screen, does not close all running applications.
