I can just tell you it boots and seems to work. When I tried to manually
build my hw-support-dkms against the kernel I got:

The errors in the kernel log don't appear with kernel version 4.10.17.
However, I still get lockups with that kernel as well.
At this point I think the lockups are probably not related to the
warnings and are possibly caused by a hardware failure. The errors in

I see this in the trace in comment #2:
"The kernel version is not supported."
I wonder if makedumpfile is seeing the "lp1745104" tag I put in the test
kernel name. I'll build another kernel without this tag to see if it
helps.

17.04 did not have any problems, I never had 16.04 on this computer.
An update to the kernel yesterday seems to have resolved this issue
(linux-image-4.13.0-31). So it's not worth investigating further at this
point in time.
