 Hi,

My question is this, if I do vaddomain isp.com so that I can test my
syncing script, and I want to keep qmail in the dark about the existence
of this domain, can I simply pull the isp.com entries out of the
rcpthosts and assign files? Meaning, I don't want people using
test.isp.com to have their mail to isp.com delivered locally. Would
 that work?

For what it's worth, removing from assign and virtualdomains is also
necessary (at least in my case where the test users are using the same
server for outgoing smtp). Otherwise, qmail-send still tries to deliver
locally.

Hmmm. I hate the look of that thing,

The cosmetics can be changed. I found the user-interface for the filters
to be unintuitive, but I'm told that those used to Outlook can figure it
out (if they were competent with Outlook).

Perhaps I'll see what kind of maildrop file it writes for vacation
 and steal that.

If you're just doing this for intelligent people with shell access then
that may be the simplest answer. For us, the ability for customers who
are five cans short of a six-pack to be able to set up vacation responders
without having shell access is important.

Although the qmail-autorespond has some tempting features, including
mysql support for storing the away message and the list of email
 addresses it has replied to.

With the sqwebmail filters you can tell it to save the mail that people
sent you (to a sub-folder if that's what you want) - surely better than
only knowing who mailed you but not knowing what they wrote. But the most
important feature (from my perspective) is that it can be set not to
reply to the same address within a specified period of time. Waking up
to find all my disk space eaten by a vacation responder loop is one of
my recurring nightmares.

Plus I think I can maintain some qmailadmin compatibility.

That, as yet, has not been officially dealt with. There is still some
disagreement as to the best way to handle it.

What? webmail? Or POP3 + IMAP? Or all three? But a POP3-Webmail
technically ain't possible

- For POP3 there's qmail-popup/3d.
- For IMAP you've chosen BincIMAP, a good choice IMHO
- For Webmail there're things like 'sqwebmail' or if you want to slow
down the process there's stuff that makes use of IMAP server to
display mails in your browser. Don't ask me for the name, I've
forgotten it; but I'm sure before the week ends you'll have gotten
the answer by somebody else here on this list.

Have a web interface to modify personnal options for each user (vacation

- qmailadmin should be able to rudimentarily do this.

[...]
 Any help please ?

What's the setup of POP3 and IMAP regarding to password checks?
How do you invoke password checker for this daemons? I know for sure
BincIMAP works with vchkpw, seems you've set it up in a wrong way (the
same applies to POP3 daemon).

Just a point of correction... Horde/IMP uses IMAP or POP3 as a method of
accessing the mailstore for a given user (and it is really an inefficient
implementation too but that is a discussion for another list).

I am not sure about others, but I know IMP has that functionality.

[vchkpw] IMP, vpopmail, and v-users changing passwords?

2003-11-04 Thread David Wolfskill
So... someone prior to my tenure here set up vpopmail and IMP, but it
seems that the current implementation (as he left it) only provides
support for UNIX users changing their passwords -- not virtual users.

I see where there appears to be some intended support for this, but it
looks to me as if that presumes that the Web server is running on the
same machine as the mail server -- which (of course!) is not the case
for us.

Would anyone care to provide a pointer to a hint for how to accomplish
allowing virtual users to change their own passwords?

We're using vpopmail 5.3.16, horde 2.2.1, and imp 3.1.3 in a FreeBSD
4.8-RELEASE environment.

Thanks,
david

Lol...you all realize that you are generating more noise than the noise
that is the root of the discussion. The installation script release
updates on a vpopmail list are debateable if you really like being AAAP
(As Anal As Possible). But the fact that it is a simple post about a
qmail project someone is working on, which (arguably) does very much
relate to vpopmail makes me believe it shouldn't be ridiculed. If you
really feel the need to tell someone to post to another list, you don't
have to be a terrible asshole about it right from the get-go. I think a
few people on this list need to get a punching bag and/or a girl friend.

PS. Franck, I say post on man. I'm gonna be setting up another MX for
my company, and I'm gonna give your script a try. Peaz.
