[vchkpw] Vpopmail + Courier-imap Login Failed.
Hi, I am using Qmail + Vpopmail + Courier-imap for my mail server. I got no problem at all until I tried to use the ./vadddomain -u abc abc.com (This will create the mail directory into system user folder) then I encountered login failed to the imap server. I got this error message Nov 5 16:16:43 calypso imapd: Connection, ip=[:::127.0.0.1] Nov 5 16:17:02 calypso imapd: LOGIN FAILED, ip=[:::127.0.0.1] Nov 5 16:17:38 calypso imapd: LOGOUT, ip=[:::127.0.0.1] But, there is no problem at all if I use the (./vadddomain abc.com ) and vpopmail will create the default mail directory into /home/vpopmail/domains/abc.com Anyone know what's wrong with this?

[vchkpw] PostOffice Passwords
Hi, Recently our ISP migrated from PostOffice running Windows 2000 to qmail-ldap on Linux. I asked them how they did the conversion of passwords, and luckly in the time they migrated, there was this great feature on the qmail-ldap patch: - It also supports the password format used by Software.com's Post.Office It will be great if we see something similar on the vpopmail. I was willing to migrate a company's e-mail from ISP to their internal network, but since I get very confused using qmail-ldap, there is no other way to do this. I did think on building vpopmail with the --learn-passwords enabled, but there are too much (critical) e-mails, and if someone just set another person's password, well, you know... I don't want to this happen. So is there a way to do this? Maybe we can modify vpopmail's code to include the support for PostOffice's Passwords based on qmail-ldap's patch? Any ideas? Thanks in advance, Hugo
[vchkpw] qmailadmin and apache suexec
I had qmailadmin installed and working great. Today, I setup my apache server to use suexec. I noticed my qmailadmin stopped working. After looking through the archives, I found a post where someone mentioned that I needed to change the owner, group, and permissions on the qmailadmin file. I made them the same user and group as the suexec parameter I specified in apache. Now it is working fine. My question is... is that OK? Will I mess anything up by running it as a user other than vpopmail.vchkpw? Thanks in advance. _ From Beethoven to the Rolling Stones, your favorite music is always playing on MSN Radio Plus. If all the domains are owned by vpopmail:vchkpw then qmailadmin must either run as that user or be able to switch the effective uid/gid (uses seteuid() and setegid()). My guess is your setup won't work. You can easily check by adding email accounts and forwards. If they work and the permissions on the files are right, you are set. Ken Jones

| `- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - In my case, i use a specific virtualhost for qmailadmin, and i set suexec on this virtualhost to vpopmail.vchkpw Best regards... _ (_' ,_)téphane Bouvard [antarex AT freenet DOT be] http://www.antarex.be --
[vchkpw] Has the format of vpasswd file changed?
Greetings folks, if(you don't care about the explanation) goto QUESTION :EXPLANATION I am this close - '' to getting courier-imap to work (well) with vchkpw. I have compiled courier --without-authdaemon and --with-authvchkpw. I have been running vpopmail 5.2.1 for a while now, but on someone's advice I also compiled 5.3.29 and copied libvpopmail.a to the /home/vpopmail/lib directory, renaming the old one. I did this, of course, before I built courier-imap. When I start courier using tcpserver, I believe that the authentication process itself is successful, but it craps out, citing the following failure: chdir Pop User by CGI: No such file or directory Looking in that domain's vpasswd file, the format is this: username:password:1:0:Pop User by CGI:path-to-user's-dir:NOLOGIN Sometimes the Pop User by CGI is replaced with the username, or Pop User by CLI. So my question is this: :QUESTION Has the format of the vpasswd file changed between 5.2.x and 5.3.x? I looked in the docs, ChangeLog and FAQ and can't find anything that explains the syntax. I realize my whole setup is cracked, especially the fact that I did not install vpopmail 5.3.29, that I'm just using the libvpopmail.a from it. I didn't want to screw up my vpopmail installation, since it has been working fine for so long now. Thanks in advance, and let me know if I need to supply any more info. PK

If you dont want to use the vpopmail 5.3.x devel versions, you should instead use vpopmail-5.2.2, as this build includes many bugfixes over the 5.2.1 version, including one very important bug fix that relates to courier-imap Michael.
Re: [vchkpw] Re: qmailadmin and apache suexec
In my case, i use a specific virtualhost for qmailadmin, and i set suexec on this virtualhost to vpopmail.vchkpw After setting up my vhosts as you described, I discovered that in order for apache to run suexec as the vpopmail user, it must run as uid and gid of 89. My suexec is configured to run only uid's and gid's higher than 508. As I understand it, most apache configs are setup by default to allow only uid and gid of 100 or higher to run suexec unless you change it using the --configure options for apache when you rebuild. Can I run qmailadmin as uid and gid of something higher? How about 600.600? The instructions specifically say to setup vpopmail as 89.89, so there must be some special reason why this is chosen. What worries me... and I'm not sure if I should be cautious here or not... the user nobody on my system is 99.99. So if I lowerd my apache suexec to 89.89 then the user nobody will be able to run suexec'd on the box.
