[videoblogging] Technology Preview at the Podcast Expo
If you like The Levelator for audio, you may want to come by by PNME presentation on Saturday. Bruce Sharpe, developer of The Levelator, and I will be giving the first time demonstration of a technology code-named Hydra, which we think will be of particular interest to folks in video. Hydra is not The Levelator for Video. It's something entirely different. But if you record (or want to record) interviews in remote locations, or if you record (or want to record) with multiple cameras, Hydra is going to make your life a whole lot easier. Hydra isn't available yet. We're just previewing the technology for your feedback. And we're not selling anything. Like The Levelator, we plan offer Hydra to the community for free. Hope to see you there. ...doug Doug Kaye, Executive Director The Conversations Network A 501(c)(3) Non-Profit [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Re: [videoblogging] Re: Uploading videos to multiple sites
The first 99 cents you spend buys you 25 extra uploads, then they're 99 cents a piece after that. If it would save me a couple hours which is what I spend uploading now, that would be well worth a buck. My time is worth slightly more than $0.50 / hour. Though like I said, I haven't tried it yet so I can't really recommend it. On 9/27/07, Shawn Carpenter [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: I am tracking a few of my videos with vidmetrix. This gives me great hope. I think Im probably done on this topic for now, thanks for bearing with me whilst I waffled on. There could be many reasons for this,w ho knows if I will stumble upon any of them, in any case Im sure most of the authors of video player swf's will be more than capable of optimising things by the time this update gets out of beta. This is great :) Im currently hacking around with the JW player to see if its code like videoClip.display.smoothing = true; videoClip.display.deblocking = 4; which is causing jw player not to take effect of the nice fullscreen acceleration. If its something more complex than that, then its likely over my head, I dont really know what Im doing with actionscript yet. I'll test on windows later, including the small UMPC which has limited graphics cpu power. On a Macbook (non pro) I get the same result, blip.tv and youtube use more cpu fullscreen than these h264 examples. I am researching this issue, at a guess certain settings are required to enable hardware-accelerated fullscreen mode. So for example here is the excellent JW Player playing my h264 test: http://www.unquack.com/jw.html (I just changed the video extension from mp4 to flv to get it working with JW whilst waiting for a new version that supports mp4 and m4v extensions) Its using a lot more CPU than my previous example. Some of this may be due to player controls, but I hope to discover that changing a few settings in the player sourcecode will enable the hardware accelerated fullscreen mode, hopefully for both h264 and on2 type formats. I certainly anticipate companies like blip taking notice at this, because I am excited about the energy saving possibilities, and the ability for fullscreen to work nice on a wider range of computers. I also hope this will be an era where we can forget about slow framerates like 12fps, still I am out of date on this issue, what does blip use now? Either way I anticipate more cpu will be saved by changing a few lines in their flash player source, than on using low framerates. Re: [videoblogging] cell phone picture blog platform?
If you send from phone via MMS, the subject becomes the title of the photo, and the body of the MMS text becomes the body of the blog post. To set up your flickr account, go to 'Your Account' -- 'Email' -- --'Upload to Blog Email' There's an email address you may add to your phone's address book - one for just uploading to Flickr and one to upload to Flicker and autopost to your blog. You've first to set up your blog account (including credentials) @ Flickr, and probably a few hoops to authenticate (been too long since I did this). That is accomplished in 'Your Account' -- 'Extending Flickr' You can futz with the layout of the photo - size, orientation, text wrap, etc., by editing 'Your Blog List' -- 'Settings' and 'Layout' Just uploading a photo from phone now so you can see: Here's the Flickr page - http://www.flickr.com/photos/fauxpress/1448323937/ Here's the vlog page - http://fauxpress.blogspot.com/2007/09/rx-flowers-every-day.html Happy to do a Skype consultation if you need it. Advertise your fave internet cafe, fave restaurant, mom-n-pop hardware store, fave soft and hardware. Think hyper-local. Hyper-local to the vlogspace. Folks you already know. Get monthly credit at their establishments for your vlog posts about them or for setting up their business with a vlog. That's a start. The one problem I've had with this is that you need to be a good consumer. I've seen some bloggers who are always talking about the latest gadget they bought, or thing or experience that they purchased, but honestly, I am a terrible consumer. I rarely buy things outside of the necessities of food/gas/rent/etc. I buy a new computer every 5+ years. I don't eat out much. I am the anti-consumer. Which makes it hard to monetize the things I love, because many of them can't be purchased with dollars. Pete
[videoblogging] UV AMSTERDAM CALLING...
Dear mothervloggers, I was away for a while and so was United Vloggers But we're about to relaunch this weekend; starting this Saturday when I will be delivering the very first keynote of my life - on the wonderful world of vlogs @ the Short Ride in a Fast Machine festival - http://www.submarinechannel.com/shortride/ - organized by Submarine Channel http://www.submarinechannel.com, to be held in the Schouwburg Amsterdam (the City Theatre @ the Leidseplein). Please come visit when you're in Amsterdam! My talkie will start at 23:00 in the royal loge. I'm very very nervous. Anyway anyhow, my question to you all: If you find time, could you please forward me a permalink of one of your favorite postings not made by you but by somebody else a video that, according to you was milestone in videoblogging? Like the first test Jay did in NYC with Peter for instance? Or Verdi naked? Or Josh Leo's first rant? Actually these three I've got :-) But I would really really appreciate indeed if you would send me your loved ones. I will present these jewels to the überhip guests from Picknick '08 ( http://www.picnicnetwork.org/ ) and my wonderful friends friends from Submarine Channel. Besides that I will make a section Milestones in Videoblogging on UV I think that's a swell idea somehow. Hoping to hear from you soon! May Spinoza bless you you will gain maximum gratitude! This cuts out the agency middle men...and all the high costs of promotion. Independent musicians can then hope to make a living by selling their own music and doing live performances. Reading the article, I wonder if you could apply the same logic to online video. Do independent video makers need to rely on advertising modelscontinuing the same relationship to a bloated middle man? Or will a different relationship develop between people watching and the people who make the stuff they want to watch? jay I think the 'problem' with this concept is that there's a difference between how music is consumed and how video is consumed. I think the only way a video maker could pull something like this off would be to already have a base of people interested in their videos enough to chip in to pay for the costs of creating and distributing that video. Kind of like the idea you were talking about that said something like 800 people paying $5 each. http://foureyedmonsters.com has been doing really progressive stuff with online distribution and promotion. Check out their tutorial: http://foureyedmonsters.com/category/tutorial/ . Granted, they're talking about a feature-length film, but I would assume the same concepts would apply to shorter internet productions. -- Bill http://billcammack.com -- http://jaydedman.com 917 371 6790 Twitter: http://tinyurl.com/2aodyc RSS: http://tinyurl.com/yqgdt9
