எனக்குச் சில வினாக்கள் உள்ளன. அவற்றிற்கு யாராவது விடை
அளித்தால் மகிழ்வேன். முதலில், என் பின்னணி குறித்துச் சில
வரிகள்:

நான் ஊபூன்ட்டூ 8.04, ஓப்பன் ஆஃபீஸ் 3.0/2.4, தமிழ்99
விசைப் பலகை, யூனிக்கோட் எழுத்துரு லோஹித் ஆகியனவற்றைப்
பயன்படுத்துகிறேன்.
சூழலியல், வேளாண்மை, பொருளாதாரம் முதலிய துறைகளில்
கட்டுரைகளை இலவயமாக ஆங்கிலத்திலிருந்து தமிழாக்கம்
செய்துவருகிறேன்.
திரு சிவராஜ் அனுப்பிய தமிழ்99 ஒட்டினைப் பயன்படுத்திவருகிறேன்.
நான் தமிழில் தட்டச்சு செய்து அனுப்பும் கோப்புகளை பேஜ்மேக்கரில்
பார்க்கமுடிவதில்லை. அதனால் அவற்றைப் பெறுவோர் மீண்டும்
தட்டச்சு செய்யவேண்டியுள்ளது. மைக்ரோசாஃப்ட் வின்டோசில்
மைக்ரோசாஃப்ட் வேர்ட்-ஐப் பயன்படுத்தி அந்தக் கோப்புகளை
மாற்ற முடிகிறது. ஆனால், வின்டோஸ் மற்றும் ஊபூன்ட்டு இடையே
நிகழும் எழுத்துரு வேறுபாட்டால் நிறைய நேரம் வீணாகிறது.
என் ஐயங்கள்/வினாக்கள்:

1. தமிழ்99-இலிருந்து பிற தமிழ் வடிவங்களுக்கு மாற்றுவதற்கு
மென்பொருள்கள் உள்ளனவா? (இல்லை, நான் தமிழ்99ஐ
விட்டுவிட்டு ரெமிங்டன் தட்டச்சு முறையைக் கற்கவேண்டுமா?)
2. ஊபூன்ட்டுவைவிட ஃபெடோரா (வைரசிடம் இருந்தும் பிற
வகைகளிலும்) பாதுகாப்பானது என்று கேள்விப்பட்டேன். இது
சரியா?
3. ஃபெடோராவை என் கணினியில் இறக்கினேன். அதில்
தமிழ்99 இல்லை. அது கிடைக்குமா? (ஃபெடோரா நல்லதெனில்).
இந்த வினாவைக் கேட்பதற்கு இது சரியான தளம் அல்லவோ?!

Hello All,
I have 3 questions for this group. First, a few lines
of background information ...
Background:
----------
I use Ubuntu 8.04, OpenOffice 3.0/2.4, and Tamil 99 keyboard,
and Unicode fonts like Lohit.
I do translations (for free) of articles on the environment,
agriculture, ecoonomics, etc., from English to Tamil.
Mr. Sivaraj sent me the tamil99 patch.
Those who receive my Tamil files are unable to edit
them in PageMaker (MS Windows) because of the encoding
i use. I am able to edit the files using MS Word on
MS Windows but the font i use in Ubuntu isn't available
on Windows and vice versa. This makes it hard to
go back and forth between Ubuntu (which i use) and
Windows (used by those who receive my Tamil files).
This difficulty recently caused me a lot of trouble
(and extra work).
Questions:

1. Is there a converter to convert from tamil99 to
other encoding methods? (If this were possible,
one could use PageMaker to edit my files in Windows.)
If not, do I have to learn yet another Tamil
typing method (like the Remington keyboard)?
2. I recently heard that Fedora is more robust and
has better (virus) protection than Ubuntu does.
Is this correct?
3. Any idea whether Fedora 10 supports Tamil 99?
Fedora 10 has Tamil Inscript and Tamil (std) keyboard,
but not Tamil99, by default. Perhaps this mailing
list is not the right one to use for this and
the previous question?!
