June 2000
Daniel Monkey here reporting from The Habitat. We've been very busy lately preparing the label for a big change. We recently signed an exclusive manufacturing and distribution deal. This process has delayed us, but now everything is getting back on schedule. What this means to you is better distribution, larger pressings and more releases. We are very excited by this because we get to do what we love. That is, to put out interesting music. So here is what to expect in the months to come: July 15 2000 -- official release date of Merrick Brown vs. T. Millar 12" (MTEK 01). This is a co-release between MMR and Tektite Recordings and our first foray into techno. It is intended primarily to be a DJ release. Distribution has been secured so keep an eye out for it. Copies will be available through the Mad Monkey website starting on July, 15 2000. To be released in Late Summer/Early Fall: Repressing of Neutral - Font Translation Errors CD (digi-pak) We are repressing a larger quantity and will get much wider distribution. Neutral has been getting a lot of attention lately. Look for features on Neutral in upcoming issues of XLR8R, URB and CMJ. For more info on Neutral take a look at http://jega.madvision.co.uk (look at Planet Mu artists and 20 questions -- look for the Nicole Elmer sections) Burning Rome - Whistler's Bombardier CD. This is the follow-up to "Senseless" on Mindfield Records. Whistler's Bombardier is an evolution of the ideas explored in "Senseless" with a much looser and experimental direction. It is another sound for MMR and it has been getting heavy rotation here at The Habitat. This release also contains a remix by Atom Heart. For further info on Burning Rome check out http://www.burningrome.com We have a few more artists lined up for forthcoming releases but we will have to keep that quiet for now. As we get closer to release dates we will update you. for a sneak at what is planned see http://www.metarc.com (look under the news section) Other interesting news: We are arranging a showcase for Mad Monkey in New York City in October. This is part of a 4 day festival put on by Safety In Numbers (http://www.safetyinnumbers.net). Labels involved include (but not limited to) Carpark, Isophlux, Inzec, Merck, Krackfive, Hydrant, Tigerbeat, Obliq and Toshoklabs. Many of our artists will be there. We will keep this list updated with details when they are available. Lastly, an exclusive 'Army of the 23 Monkeys' MP3 for everyone. If you know of anyone else who would like to receive this mail out feel free to forward it to them. Daniel Monkey - June 2000 http://www.madmonkey.org
