Check the Chicago Reader (I think it's online). Karma has some really good talent sometimes. There are also cool one-off events to try and find. I went to a cool party at a place called the castle (not really a club, more like converted office space) with Anthony Nicholson DJing once that was pretty cool. Found it in the Reader... Red Dog has Lego on Saturday's still I think, and I can't really recommend that. For techno, I think the Empty Bottle has occasional offerings. For a good bar to get things started try Tuman's Alcahol Abuse Society. Cheap beer and a funny jukebox. Lots of Metallica and Tom Waits.
