I missed the festival this year but will be at the US Social Forum this
week -- www.ussf2010.org for info. A gigantio politico-culturo-alterno-fest
with over 1000 workshop sessions and a bunch of other stuff, mostly
at Cobo Hall and Wayne State. I've heard attendance estimates in
the 20-30,000 range, Lots of people who are going to see at least part
of the reality of Detroit for the first time.

Not much musically related events as part of it from what I can tell,
there's a couple stages at Hart Plaza featuring various things, and the
one big party ("Leftist Lounge") on Friday night in Eastern Market
(Bert's, Johansen Charles and a couple other places) seems to be
featuring mostly out of town hip hop DJs. I'm sure they're good, but...

Friday at Porter St with D. Wynn, Piranhahead and Scott Coleman is
more my ticket. Haven't been there since it became 10 Critics but that
seems like it will be worthwhile.

Hit me up if there's anything else happening of interest. I'll do my
share of political stuff (and spreading tales out of school about all
the recent UN climate negotiations), but gotta do some record
shopping tooo . . . .
