I don't get it. Throw a free 3-day party in Hart Plaza and millions show up. Throw a one-day party, charge US $20 for it in Windsor Casino parking lot and maybe 2,000 or so show up. What's up wit dat? None of the 313 list people that I knew in person before Saturday showed up, save Diana Potts and Tristan. (It was nice meeting 6 or 7 more listmembers, though. Hope Christian Bloch has a safe trip back home today.) Then, to add insult to injury, apparent lack of willingness to disturb the old folks in the tower blocks a half-mile away led to the DJ monitors being louder at the front of the stage than the speaker stacks. While I'm already half-deaf and didn't mind the "quiet" so much, you still need a certain amount of volume to really get the crowd going (or a 15-minute downpour). It wasn't present. I'm afraid "Lifelessfest Canada" was more like it. Oh well. At least I had fun. Got to talk to Rich and Dale and Clark Warner for a bit, as well as the aforementioned list members. And I don't care how many people are there, no way I'm not having fun when it's Dale (who played a great set, perfect music for the time slot he was stuck with), Gene Farris (who was not only late, but got FAR too much DJ'ing time, thus causing Derrick May to cancel so he could catch his flight to NY), Juan, Carl, Inner City (only 3 songs - thanks for the delays, organizers) and Richie playing. In the "Only in Detroit" dept. (Airport section): On my way in, while walking through DTW I spotted this little glassed-in exhibit that contained one of the first 2 prototype Moog synthesizers - the one used by Walter/Wendy Carlos to do the "Switched On ..." albums. RAD! On my way out, I was standing at the Northwest ticket counter line when up walked this guy in full NW mechanic's regalia. He started to make reference to my UR bag and I thought "Sheeit, this guy looks a lot like ..." and I didn't even get to finish that thought as he said "I'm Rolando's brother". Apparently he's been a DJ for ages too, and is working on his own tracks. I wished him best of luck. What a hoot that was! Oh yeah - some party going on at the City Club this next Saturday, with Magda and some other unknown DJ. Saw a flyer for it at some obscure label's booth at Lifefest :-) - Greg (who wonders if THIS post will be allowed to make it through) --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] For additional commands, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
