I'm sure a lot more of you will be out tonight to see Carl Craig spin, but Dennis Donahue, his wife Magda, & I went down to see War and John Aquaviva play, and then hit Motor to hear John play again.
Aquaviva is one of the 'big' DJs I hadn't seen before, and I had a great time. At Taste-fest he was playing more old-school poppy stuff like Thomas Dolby and Front 242 (not pop, I know but familiar) -- I think as a hook for the folks there who aren't familiar with house and techno. But I really dug what he was doing for the most part, and he seemed to be having a good time, which I've found is a good indicator of how good a set is going to be. Later at Motor he was a bit more techno-oriented and banging, but he seems to like stuff that has some melody to it, or at least a bassline. Top tunes, and while it wasn't brilliant mixing, he definitely has an idea how to work the crowd's mood with the music. The wackiest thing he played was a remix of 'Somebody to Love' by Jefferson Airplane -- No idea whether this is on a record somewhere or this is one of his Final-Scratch only remixes. I tend to think it's the latter, as it didn't really sound totally finished ... it was fun but after hearing it twice I thought something more could be made of that song ... Anyway, I'll see those of you I see for Mike Clark and Carl Craig ... --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] For additional commands, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
