'fraid I totally disagree

My experience of hearing broken beat played out is a bit limited, but what I've really enjoyed about hearing a set of 100% broken beats (if such a thing is possible) is that the DJs can really get into a groove with some continuity. The result is a special, and in my experience v. rare, dancefloor experience when everyone is dancing "as one", i.e. everyone is locked into the same holy groove, operating on some kind of higher plane (?). In this state no one cares about when the next bid "drop" or breakdown is coming, it's more like you could just dance to the beat forever, time seems to stop in fact.

In case any of you were wondering, I'm quite sober at the moment, it's just an experience I find very difficult to describe in words without spewing pseudo-mystic gobshite. If any of the London list members went to "Speed" at the Mars Bar in its early days then you may hopefully have some idea of what I'm on about. I guess there's some kind collective consciousness thing going on.

It also depends on the skills of the DJ, but there is definitely something about broken beat that encourages this kind of vibe. Given my D&B comparison made above, maybe it's a breakbeat thing? Also, the broken beat production "scene" seems to have come of age, in that there's enough intricate material to play that kind of set.

Anyone else?

It's a little bit off topic but
I'm looking for good broken beat dj's
and heard some producers spin but he they ain't called producers for nothing

So my question is :

what is the best broken beat dj for you and why ?

nothing is more boring than a dj that only plays brokenbeat.
in my opinion it works best when combined with other genre's, so it can enhance the deepness of the house tracks, or the pure energy of the techno tracks.

i think titonton does that, and so do domu and recloose.
there's a nice titonton mix up on betalounge [date: 01/25/01]

another dj i often see referred to as an excellent dj is charlie dark, he's got a mix up on betalounge aswell [date: 10/13/01] haven't heard it myself though.

the best resource for brokenbeat audio is probably http://www.nuwaveradio.co.uk
you'll find some somatik mixes there aswell.
