actually, I think it should be required to learn how to play on equipment that sucks. because if you can do that, even remotely well, you can do it on other (hopefully better) equipment. when playing out (if you're not bringing your own equipment) one never knows what will be waiting for you ... I'm sure most everyone here has some interesting stories on that!
