hey matt

and about italo being dead, or overblown, what!? pah!! If it ain't dead yet after 20+ years of weirdo collectors scouring it all.. it's not going to just up and die anytime soon.. I'd say by comparison, 'glitch' is rapidly approaching the terminally ill/boring stage, but that's just me :P

hhaha! glitch was always boring :P original italo is certainly still full of underrated, unheard classics etc, but there is some pretty weak newer italo-inspired stuff coming out...or maybe i just follow too closely. i know alden tyrell is i-f's buddy, but that last record he did, knockers or whatever, sounded like generic bad italo, generic octaved bassline, just weak. his first record, love explosion, was by far the best. legowelt is so prolific its insane, and still does tons of great music under many names, but the dark nrg legowelt sound has been run into the ground imo. he has done so many records in that style, but the first 2 or 3 were easily the best. i dunno i just hear a lot of stuff that tries to tip its hat to italo by using some pretty generic octaved basslines, it drives me nuts, to my ears its really stale. a symptom of getting really into older music like disco and italo is that you start ignoring the cheesy parts of songs and just focus on the parts you really like...a lottt of italo was crap, and as it gets more popular, you hear a lot of crap italo...doesnt mean its dying, but whoaaa hold on its not all classic...

some of those new Pigna records coming out of Italy are hot!! The Francisco tracks, and the Raiders of The Lost Arp tracks

i only have one, funk 005 (drive) and its pretty good...the francisco mix is by far the best..i was surprised that it leans as much towards techno as it does! i am definitely trying to hunt down some more...suggestions?

also you could argue the $tinkworx and Macho Cat Garage / Legowelt and etc. etc. are all connected in some way to that era... it's definitely living on.

haha well i should think you could argue that! stinki has more than one song with "italo" in the title (subtle!), and the name macho cat garage is sort of a take off on the old italo group named gay cat park, and also the mis-heard chorus of an old italo song...on the viewlexx mcg record, there is a song "m-invasion" which is a send-off to scotch's penguin invasion. legowelt, besides the italo/nrg inspired stuff he is mostly known for, has also done some awesome more slowjam italo, like the first song on the squadra blanco album, and the upcoming beyond the congo record has a nice one too. he is wayyyy inspired by old italian horror film soundtracks (not just goblin either), italo and early chi house...my favorite italo sorta stuff is still made by legowelt, catnip, mcg, and of course i-f...legowelt is so prolific and tries so many different sounds i really think he is the prince of the italo rediscovery, if i-f is king..

have i made utterly no sense yet?? Anyway, respect to I-f! whatever his reasons i think it's silly to just publicly speculate on what *might* have been his reasons.. hell it's his prerogative and I'm sure we've not seen the last of that madman... that you can bet on for sure.

haha..yes, respect! i wasnt trying to speculate, i had actually heard reasons and forgotten, but kj cleared it up...i'm sure we've not seen the last as well..

btw the new/next comtron on blacklabel has a verrrry nice electro-italo cut...dope dope dope. it easily makes up for the electroclashy vox in another of the tracks :P
