ROM synths (or samplers, which are essentially the same thing) are what's always given a lot of Mike Banks and his proteges' music that peculiar 'organic'-synthesized, (and dare I use that cliche) future-retro ambiguity. Check out 'Star Sailing' for the real 'Hi-Tech Jazz' (imo) which is a very good example. That came out in 1996(ish?). So what Tom said has applied for years. k
