It already has. Less vinyl is selling, and fewer titles are being pressed.
i'd like to see evidence linking declining vinyl sales to mp3s. anybody else
read the oberholzer-gee report? it's excellent. it begins by shooting down
the assumption that every mp3 downloaded is a sale lost, which is the flaw
of every other report i've seen which blames mp3's..google it.
mp3 marketing - first of all, how do you compete with free (soulseek)? i
know there are various little gimmicks/bonuses you can use, but it seems
like most people would just get it free...second of all, is there ANY money
in mp3's? i don't know the specifics of iPod, but the offers i've seen from
lesser known mp3 sites are along the lines of 40% net (60% to the site). at
$2 a download it would take 1000 sales to make 80 bucks. it's better than
nothing, but...
