The connection between techno and reggae obviously goes beyond the fact that Bob Marley briefly lived in Detroit -- the work of the Hardwax crew has always had a strong grounding in dub, for example.=20 I've been on a reggae buying spree lately, and have noticed a few roots reggae tracks that could be dropped right into a techno set. Maybe not a 145bpm hard techno set, but definitely in 125-135 bpm chill set.
One that stands out is on the Blood & Fire re-issue of the Congos' "Heart of the Congos" -- in particular the bonus CD's 12" versions of "Congoman" and "Congoman Chant" This is some deep mystery music, and on the utilitarian side they have a 4/4 120 bpm pulse. Frickin awesome. Anyone else got their favorites? Lance, you should have a few!
