i guess namechecking your city is cliche, but hey...it's natural, and i like
it. it
helps give the music context and identity that might not be readily apparent to
most. of course it has to be done the right way and without dope music it's
tired.
and of course mis-representing is never cool, dutch trance trying to tie itself
to
Detroit is pretty offensive. Even if it actually sounded like classic Detroit
stuff, it
would still be pretty lame. that guy should just big-up Leiden or wherever he
comes from..

yeah, you gotta represent where youre from. ill play records that
namecheck detroit because i love detroit, but you better believe that
if there were records that namechecked pittsburgh id play them every
damn time i played out. and i certainly would never make a track
insinuating im from detroit, thats just ridiculous.

ps i never get tired of the vision's "one circle"...actually i'm struggling to
think of a
track from Detroit that namechecks Detroit that I find tiresome...

one of my favorites is the first local 3000 record, i LOVE that tune.
i also like how the house guys represent detroit, naming tracks after
streets like "outer drive" and "war on woodward", and of course the
label Harmonie Park. and i love it when moodymann shouts out streets
and neighborhoods like on KDJ 16 and his "forgotten places" remix.

and of course the detroit escalator co, which aside from the name also
namechecks gratiot. really, i love it!
