Not strictly speaking on topic but Detroit techno is mentioned, and we all know the lineage so I thought I'd mention this.
I've just finished Peter Shapiro's "Turn the beat around - The secret history of Disco". If you were hankering after more disco history after reading Tim Lawrence's "Love Saves The Day" then I'd say this is worth a read. He talks about a lot of the same history but it's always nice to hear another angle.
Ideally I'd like to read more about the later stuff he covers (like NY freestyle/street music and italo) but I guess there are books on this subject out there already (recommendations?).
