Not to put too fine a point on it, but unless you were gay and lived
in a large city, the disco you got to hear back in the 'disco era' was
only the cheesiest, most annoying tip of the iceberg.  I refuse to be
embarrassed by what I was listening to at the time -- funk, jazz, and
early electronica -- but it's only after the fact that I've come to
appreciate disco.  The really good stuff never got played on the radio
or suburban breeder Discos.

That is an excellent book.  I kind of let disco go past at the time
but in retrospect it looks more and more interesting as a kind of
musical and cultural crucible.  Most of which was not visible at
the public surface, of course.
