Hey . gear discussion !! whop whop
okay . . re: Serato
Recent reports via the THL . have voted Serato before FS, and even
placed miss pinky on the table as a strong contender for Digital/Vinyl
systems ..
There also seem to be several new interfaces with scratch platter on
the market ..
Since it's been a while (i think?) .. has anyone got any updates/info
on some of these systems .. reliability ? functionality ?
Who have you seen on the circuit using these systems ??
..
The essential function I am looking for is the ability to cue a
digital track
.. pitch adjust it into the mix using a turntable .. then release the
track
from the turntable and then start the process on a new track.
Basically .. providing the ability to do multi deck mixing using only
one
turntable as a control device.
I know that Cycling 74 & Ableton are getting into bed, so this may make
miss pinky an excellent companion for working with Ableton.
Essentially .. it would be nice to run an Ableton set with a
turntable as
a pitch control / play back direction device.
I love playing tunes/loops via Ableton .. but I really miss the Dj
interface
for stopping / rewinding & pitching the mix.
The rigidity of software - as it beat locks everything makes for a very
clinical mix. The old 1's & 2's on a turn table created a very
subtle but
pleasing pitch shift every time you shifted tracks.
..
And on the music tip ..
I am enjoying sounds from:
www.miga-label.org
Animatek [Miga03] Capibara Tracks
http://www.archipel.cc
Tom Ellis [arch025] Letters
http://www.interdisco.net
Julius Lagerfeld [id19] konterkonzept ep
..
And yea . if you just love podcast .. I am doing a new series over at
http://psurkit.net called Beat Up. It's a microphone interview thing
where I go around an talk to peeps about the scene.
I am trying to use it as a device to engage discussion about minimal
techno in my area (NZ) and reestablish some vibe for electronic sound!
much love for 313
