I use presets ALOT but then alter the sound down the audiochain.. Just using a preset isn't succumbing to cliche or being lazy.. If it's the sound you were looking for then it works..
Using a plain Casio HT-700 bassdrum without altering it isn't "creative cowardice"'ism, it's the sound you wanted.. ;) As I always say.. If it ain't broke, don't fix it!
