You have to release something big enough to attract record company or
the original artist's attention to get into trouble.  The world of Moodyman
and the world of WEA and Sony are so far apart, he could keep sampling
for years and they'd never know what he's up to.

What about DJ Shadow?  He has so much Stanley Clarke on Endtroducing that
he should be paying him as a sideman.

Moodyman also uses samples in a creative way -- it's not like puff daddy
ganking a whole hook from and 80s song in order to give his tracks pop
credibility.

Until and unless you sign with a major, no one worries too much about
sample clearance.  Then the record company has to cover its ass, and they'll
make you pay for any samples you have to clear...
