Oh, Beau...I don't know how long you've been on 313, but you've probably
noticed that I don't post too often 'round these parts.

Why?

Because it's the same people wetting their pants over old Axis records and
how DEMF isn't underground anymore.

But when I do pull up my keyboard, it's cause I got something to say, some
knowledge to impart, and bullshit to disseminate. Now, ask anyone who knows
me, and they'll tell you that I'm not the sort that thinks I'm a Lord God of
All Things 313, but I've done my share of supporting Detroit Techno music and
Detroit artists. I've also logged time fighting the Rave Wars of the Early
90's and the Electronica Military Action of 1997-98. I think I know what I'm
talkin' about. If you want me to list them, mail me privately.

You're right...this debate isn't going away. It's a debate I try to wage war
against every single fucking day. Am I a martyr for the cause? Not anymore.
But am I trying to do what I can to affect a change? Yes I am. Am I whining
about it on a mailing list? No.

Am I tired of this debate? You're right, I am. But I'm also tired of people
who whine about shit but have no idea as to how all this works. This may be
a passionate life-giving hobby for some, for people like myself and Laura
Gavoor, this is a passionate, life-giving career. We're professionals. This
is what we do. Stop whinging and help us make a change. All of you.

Things I'd like to see discussed on 313...

Why Mad Mike don't make Techno no more? The world would be a better place if
we could have another blast of 93-96 Detroit shit to fight against the shit
that is out there now.

Why Juan Atkins can't get his shit together to make his scheduled dates on
major tours? It's a chance to show that Detroit is worth paying attention
to and deserves the same kind of respect and notoriety that the people he
influenced and his contemporaries get.

What has Detroit done to burn itself out with the European music industry?
Should the artist/label relationship be an equal partnership?

Why aren't there more good, intelligent people working at labels in Detroit?
I know Motown left years ago, where's the talent pool? Other than a handful
of people (who, for the sake of brevity, will stay nameless), another label
wouldn't hire most of them.
