| yes I was distrackted by that post too, it's interesting . I like the

I read the very same post by Mr. Shuttleworth that Mr. Olson did and I
had a completely different reaction. In my mind it is entirely
consonant with his stated beliefs.

I have found very little to substantiate the "mad dictator" claims made
by Mr. Olson (and others). If anything, Mr. Shuttleworth is one of the
few to put his own money where his mouth is. Anyway, most of that
discussion is fit for an elementary schoolyard.

Read the original post yourself and then you decide:

Also, Mark posted a reply that is illuminating:

Take the time to read the whole post, to the end.

| I could revert the command for Jack control (=remove 'killall esd &')

This is not a trick, it is preventing esd from locking the sound
hardware. You could just as easily stop esd via whatever mechanism is
appropriate.

Changing hw:1 is only useful if you have 2 or more sound devices
attached to your system. When I attach a USB sound device, it becomes
hw:1 while the onboard remains hw:0. It is useful to figure out what
some of this stuff *means*.
