It should do, but with any Intel HDA chip you need a recent version of
ALSA, as there have been lots of tweaks to the driver.

No, the problem is that each vendor has it's own implementation of Intel
HDA so that it's not as simple as having just one ALSA driver that
supports all devices fully.

Right, according to:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Intel_Core_microprocessors

the T2050 is a Yonah dual core, which means it's 32-bit, so you need the
i386 iso. The later Core 2 Duo CPU's are the 64-bit models, it's the '2'
in the name that makes the difference.
