The Guruplug Display is not vaporware. I ordered one just before Christmas and it arrived a few days ago. It's a different SoC than the other plugs use, but I don't expect much trouble porting to it.
The omap port (/sys/src/9/omap) already runs on the gumstix overo, though not all peripherals work yet, but if you're still trying to get it to boot, you're duplicating work that's already done.
