Perhaps better inspiration could be achieved by setting up a public Plan 9 server (or private, it's your server) and letting people interact with it on their own. If you want to start smaller, you can always share some code that would implement some graphical feature you find Plan 9 lacking in. This list does have a disappointing lack of semicolons.
