I'm saddened the promotion of dehumanization machines here. The companies behind AI are trying to build an economy where if you try to make your own decisions, you would be outcompeted by someone who has outsourced their brain. And, of course, since intelligence and labor would no longer be scarce resources that humans can use as leverage, having an automated drone gun you down if you protest wouldn't really matter to anyone important. People say that LLMs aren't sufficiently capable to get us there. I think that's likely accurate, but there's a great deal of research going towards the next breakthroughs. How much are you willing to bet that all future attempts will fail? That's in addition to the effects on the environment, which was already precarious. Now we've decided we don't care at all, and are building gas pipelines directly to data centers. AI output is written in the blood of future generations. I think this is only somewhat overly dramatic. The tech industry is trying very hard to build an ugly future. These companies need to lose their social license to operate. ------------------------------------------ 9fans: 9fans Permalink: https://9fans.topicbox.com/groups/9fans/T073a994fa2fd80d1-M4093ce9f59d22504f37cd612 Delivery options: https://9fans.topicbox.com/groups/9fans/subscription
