Hello Mr Fireman The first thing I would do is un-install the fax component of Windows XP by going to Control Panel> add/remove programs> add/remove windows components> fax and follow the instructions provided. I recommend a program called "What's Running" it tells you so much about what's happening in your computer with a simple click you can find the online information on any highlighted item. A click will disable any start up item. I normally supplement the information provided by and through this application with a good start up file database (e.g. http://www.pcreview.co.uk/startup/). The program is free and much better for the inexperienced user than using msconfig, and so much better also than WinPatrol (the scotty dog has had its day).
