Hello, and thanks in advance for your help.

System:
HP Pavilion a6130n desktop
3GB memory
Win Vista 32 Home Premium

I have been through three WD2002FAEX 2TB drives that cannot fully format.
Windows disk management, Acronis TrueImage WD edition, or EaseUS Partition
Manager can complete a full format. WD Diagnostics reports "too many bad
sectors" and fails formatting at about 54% of the drive's capacity. I have
setup two logical partitions on the drive, and can get about 1TB in one of the
partitions, but nothing will format the other partition.

I replaced the SATA cable, but the end result is the same. All 3 drives were
manufactured in Thailand, though did not keep track of the manufacture dates.
WD support has not offered up any new solutions.

In the LinkedIn WD forum, one of the responses was that it was a known issue
with my nForce mother board (Nvidia name ECS MCP61PM-HM,HP name Nettle2-GL8E)
and to update the BIOS, which I did using the HP support site, but still won't
format the second partition.

I am doing an in-place upgrade of the OS from Vista 32 bit home premium to Win
7 32 bit home premium this weekend, and maybe the
Win 7 drivers will resolve the issue, but has anyone had experience with
this/solution in case the upgrade does not work? Thanks again for reading
through this lengthy post :)

Cheers!

Alberto
